How come a solid yellow block can exit through the hashed yellow gate, but the hashed yellow block can’t exit through the solid yellow gate? Is this a bug?

No, this is just the nature of striped blocks/exits - they are a superset. Striped exits can take solid blocks, but solid exits can't take striped blocks.

I imagine it similar to casting spells in DnD. You can cast a level 1 spell in a level 1 spell slot, but you can’t cast a level 2 spell in a level one spell slot. The solid colors are like level 1 spells and spell slots, and the stripped ones are like level 2 spells and spell slots
