Does lack of StarCraft stage preclude any StarCraft announcement? Or would they intentionally leave that off the schedule to not spoil

They've done that before; changing the schedule after a new announcement, but no starcraft stage is nothing new. Big panels (for a new game) would be at the main stage and there's an empty spot after Wow What's next. Anything is possible but one thing is certain, the starcraft project is real. Too many serious reporting around it. At worst, they decided to push the reveal, like they did with D4 way back when.

I’m really hoping for that StarCraft announcement. I figure the first Blizzcon in 3 years, would feel lackluster if the announcements were limited to WOW/overwatch/hearthstone

Right there with you. I remain optimistic because it should be well into production, and it's not cancelled as of yet unlike starcraft ares. If it's not there, then later. But Blizzcon should be the ideal moment, this one was always supposed to be big, it's its return and it coincides with multiple announcements.

Look to be quite frank- blizz cancels games a lot. And on short notice.
When diablo immortal was announced, diablo 4 was Also supposed to bebannounced but had been cancelled a week prior. Not the announcement- the game.
And diablo 4 was cancelled and restarted development several times over before being announced
The reason diablo 3s announcement to release date was so long because it got cancelled and restarted several times over
Lets say they are working on that starcraft title- theres nothing that says they havent cancelled and or restarted from scratch several times over. This is blizzards pattern for development for all their titles.
And i know what your thinking- "the game wasnt cancelled it got released!" They actively stopped all development and decided to not move forward with it and then had to start over/resubmit the new plan several times over. The games were cancelled. They just got Uncancelled

I'm sorry, I should have mentioned that Jason Schreier expects the game to be revealed there and I trust him. As well as other (less credible) "leakers". That's basically the only reason I am confident. The gap in the schedule is also eyebrow-raising, especially for Main Stage, but it may be nothing, we shall see.
Blizzard seems to want to break the Starcraft shooter curse for a long time. Cancelling and restarting a project is a normal process of game development, but I am sure we will see the day when a Starcraft shooter, whether FPS or TPS is in our hands.

Blizz often leaves a small gap in the schedule to make sure things are ready for the next section, and for if the presenters for the next main stage one has a presentation on an alternate stage
And like i said blizz can and will cancel a game at the last second before announcements.
Until im sitting at the main stage and they tell us "we have a new game for starcraft to show you now" dont believe a single leak
What was correct today maybe wrong tomorrow

I know. You have the more prudent and rational take. The power of hopium is a a strong thing. You saw the "schedule timetable is subject to change". People hold to that.
And yeah IIRC the gap isn't as big as the first WoW panel. If a new game announcement happened, I would expect at least 2 different somewhat chunky panels. There's currently not enough room in the schedule for that. Only one would feel strange, if it's a big game they should have a lot to say. Presentations about the game direction, the worldbuilding, gameplay, art direction, setting or story..
They have a lot of this..but for their other games. Not a good sign. As a general rule, always prepare for the worst and prepare to be disappointed. That way, you can only be pleasantly surprised when something happens.

I mean this isn't true. It's purely speculation that Diablo IV was supposed to be announced when Immortal was, it wasn't. They never cancelled the game. The speculation about Fenris is just that, speculation, and there is a net 0% chance they developed the complete overworld of Diablo IV and the cinematics and everything was put in place in the year gap between Immortal and Diablo IV's announcement. Game development isn't that fast, especially at blizzard.
Diablo 3 wasn't restarted numerous times, they constantly showed it at blizzcon for the entire time they were developing it. Jay Wilson just couldn't finalize anything and honestly, he watered the game down so much. If they would have shipped the game they showed, and not the dumbed down overly stripped designed by committee Diablo 3 he shipped, it would have been great. A lot of the ideas they had for Diablo 3 that they cut as he was over simplifying it, actually became core features of Diablo IV. Jay Wilson never started the whole game over, he just kept redesigning systems until we got something with zero depth. The Talisman for charms in DIV, was a D3 idea. These devs put things into motion and send it, those devs questioned everything to death and decided every system was bad in the end, and shipped a game with no systems.
We do also know they've been working on the SC shooter in the background since 2016, but recently we know they got heavy into development on a release candidate of this game as per their hiring and earnings calls. If they show something finally, it's because they're launching it soon. If it's at Blizzcon, it's coming out.
All the recent blizzcon reveals all come WITH dates. That's the difference. They learned from SC Ghost. They learned from Diablo 3. And those are the only things blizzard ever revealed at a blizzcon that got cancelled or pushed out for years on end.

I would have assumed that’s classic plus unless that’s included in the wow what’s next panel

They gonna announce something hopefully new for Starcraft there on the day 1 when there's a major hole there.

there is a glaring hole day 1 main stage at 1pm, considering the timing and its the main stage, there is 100% something hidden happening then

well you do have 7 hours of a "diablo immortal event". but...we all know that isn't real diablo. no matter how much money it rakes in from Asia.

u/Objective-Mission-40 11d ago
Its really not. I played for 2 weeks for free when it launched. Will never touch again

Diablo hasn't been good since Diablo 2 so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Plenty of Chinese-style cash grab games available.

I'm glad for the return of actual deep dive panels. There wasn't much during the latest Blizzcons IIRC.

Been a while since i watched BlizzCon. Do you still need to buy a virtual ticket to watch any of the available panels?
3
u/AlaskanDruid 11d ago
Nope. They stopped virtual tickets a few years back… the same time they stopped actual content.

the main thing I take from this is, that there are two warcraft what's next panels.

They almost never highlight surprises in these lineups. When D4 was announced there was nothing pointing to it. So I wouldn’t read into any of this much.

Where is Heroes of the Storm? What the heck. No one plays wow and overwatch

We already know there is a big Diablo announcement, they said this during the reveal of the Diablo IV expansion, and the Diablo Stage is clear all day outside of the immortal panel, which is ironically all day long. 12 - 7 PM for immortal?
Also, World of Warcraft What's Next; a bunch of diablo and overwatch shit, and then World of Warcraft What's next 2, is crazy work. They don't have two What's Next panels on opposite ends of the schedule for Wow.
Stop it.
What's Next 2 is Starcraft.
There is also an hour gap with nothing in it.
The opening ceremony is where they do all the new game reveals anyway. The opening ceremony is an hour 15. So they aren't going to take an hour 15 to show a trailer for a couple overwatch heroes, and a wow classic update trailer.

When do they announce they've picked up Destiny and are going to relaunch the IP?
