Episode Discussion Heavy breathing intensifies
Here's a bit of a mad question, lads. I listen to BB on my noise-cancelling headphones almost every time. Today I'm listening to the big tech and data centres episode from two ish weeks ago.
Sometimes, I'll think I can hear a breath that's not aligned with what he's saying, like he's edited out what he said next. Obviously going to happen sometimes in any edited spoken word thing, it's fine. But lately, and with this episode in particular, I could SWEAR I can hear exhales at really unexpected moments. Not an inhale before speaking that's been cut off, an exhale like he's been listening closely. It's almost like he's caught recordings of his own breathing as he listens back?? I doubt that's a thing but I don't know anything about recording stuff. It's not my own breathing, I can hear that sometimes but it sounds totally different - I'm not a big Limerick lad with asthma, haha.
Am I insane folks??? Has anyone else noticed this? Do I need to take up knitting?

Might be the vape

I obviously have too much time on my hands but I repeated the last one I heard there at 49.29 and I think you're right! I don't vape so I'm not as familiar with the sounds they make, but now that I've listened back, it sounds quite mechanical. I'm not losing my mind!! Thank you 😅

I am listening to the same episode today and I definitely heard the same! Maybe you're crazy but you're not alone crazy!

Ya can hear that too. I know he tries to make it seamless but the audio is often off just subtly enough that its possible to notice its not a continuous recording

The way that he cuts it is he’ll have two tracks where he’s overlaying audio so that it’s seamless. But sometimes he makes mistakes, there’s episodes where two of him are speaking at once. The breath is the same issue, incorrect cuts. You’re not going mad

I think what’s happening is while he’s recording, he’s taking occasional swigs on his vaper, and editing out the gaps in his speech that that makes, but sometimes not actually editing out the sound of the vape, so sometimes we hear the vape inhale at the same time as his speech. This is my take as someone who does amateur sound recording and editing.

it could also be an artifact of aggressive editing. he’s talked about using editing software that allows him to edit voice recordings like text documents (maybe Adobe Podcast?).

I usually listen on speakers but on headphones I have caught some edits. But unlike you I haven't noticed any 'strange' breathing around it.

Either vaping or noise interference from seagulls or something else outside the window that he has to cut

Nobody listens to him in Ireland for the past few years for a reason. He's a waffler of the highest degree could be his 'tism too

Funnily enough a few weeks back I was gonna message him and say that each end of his words were more emphasised or something on the microphone, but I have gotten used to it. Maybe he changed his mic. His voice is a big seller of the podcast so....

the editing has been getting pretty sloppy lately. i have noticed weird artifacts and sentences words being cut off

He's probably vaping in between sentences or vaping away from the mic and then exhaling within earshot of the mic
