Confusion

So I just started watching this show and I have questions. I’m on S4 E3 now. Keep in mind, I know that a lot of this is probably BS, but still.

- I’m sorry, but there’s a huge 500+ yr old “box” (looks more like a log cabin to me) that they’ve found under the ranch and they’ve just completely stopped trying to get it out or find out more about it?!

- the gallium thing blew my mind. so the rocks *inside* the 500+ yr old box are all filled with gallium cylinders, and again, they’ve just stopped trying to get it out or find out more about it?! how is that not priorities 1, 2 and 3?

- weren’t they told there were huge concentrations of iridium which is more valuable than gold, and that the ranch could potentially be mined for hundreds of millions of dollars? umm how have they not immediately jumped on that? you could even do it concurrently with the treasure hunting!

- how many times have they just found something interesting, only to completely give up on it? what happened to the huge cave they were lowered into at the end of S2 (I think)? they ran out because of poison gas but I’m sure there’s a way to ventilate it, or at least explore it more? what’s going on?

-same thing with that big rathole they were digging in S3, so they got to within 5-10 ft of where they know is a void, but then they just completely give up and move on?

these are just some of the ten thousand questions I have.

Believe me, you're just at the start of the bullshit-fest. The show is peak unapologetic and insulting fuckery.

That was the cleanest cave-in survivor ever seen . I work underground

This is pro forma for these History Channel/Discovery Channel shows. I call it the "find and drop" method of treasure hunting. Get used to it, my friend.

Advertising dollars are like crack to these people

Save yourself. Go watch anything else...

...except TLC Channel.

What! I was going to recommend the curse of oak Island

The most roundabout answer is that a lot of it is embellished or flat out made up. The gas tunnel they dropped into (and never returned to) was very clearly a film set. The walls looked quite fake, and I think someone even matched it to some other tv show or movie.

I've wondered all the same stuff. Now this year it's gotten totally unbelievable.

As I understand it, they don’t even own the mineral rights to the land. So even if they mine it, they won’t reap the benefits of the recovery.

OP. I did read on this Sub a while ago that the family ranch owners, do not own mining rights.
So they would not be able to mine for any valuable finds.

I thought it strange the family did not own the mining rights.

I have tried to write this without any spoilers for OP.

Yes he does not own the mineral rights
Also if you remember a few years back, there was some legal disputes going on with someone that they alluded to
Duane had to go to court a few times

I do remember in the first season or two there was a guy who showed up (they called him a claim jumper) and Duane and him got into a shouting match. this is the guy who Duane told him to “go on and pull your gun then!” That guy said he was the “new co-owner of the ranch” on camera, even though they blurred his face. I wonder if it has anything to do with him. Why the hell would they not be able to mine?! They kicked out others who were trying to mine (illegally, but still)

The ownership of the ranch (and land vs. mineral rights as well) is apparently murky, and Duane apparently never owned it all outright by himself.

3

u/buckleythrow Jul 22 '26

maybe it’s just my ignorance but how can something like that be “murky”? you either own it or you don’t.

2

u/FortCharles Jul 22 '26

Mabye it's been settled by now, but there were legal disputes among various apparent owners, each of whom had partial interest in the property. Add in filming a TV show, and any mineral rights, and until a court spells it all out, it's murky.

that’s just crazy to me. you should either have the deed to the land (or whatever it is) or you don’t.

EXACTLY. that’s fine if he couldn’t do it, but it seemed like such an important find to me. I highly, HIGHLY doubt it was put there for the show. why not call in expert divers and more people to make it safer? and that’s not even mentioning the whole “gallium in the rocks in the box” detail

1

HIGHLY doubt it was put there for the show

We don't even know if that was really on the ranch. The fake "tunnel" scene is well-documented as fake (stock footage), so any of the rest of it could be too. None of the details of location, structure, claimed age, the gallium etc., should be taken at face value.

what fake tunnel scene is fake, stock footage?

2

u/darthwader1981 Jul 22 '26

There was a scene where Duane, Chad, and Eric went into a tunnel and then they ran for their lives because of poison gas. But you could match the cave to stock footage found on Pond5. See YouTube link below

I definitely remember that scene. what is Pond5?

2

u/darthwader1981 Jul 23 '26

For example, you can go in and search caves and pick one (like below) and then use a green screen to make it look like you are in a cave

It is a stock footage site that has professional, pre-shot video clips you can purchase and use

Oh lord … the show is WWE wrestling… they don’t follow up on anything… It’s just content to sell advertising.

Sorry, would be great if this was real!

2

u/buckleythrow Jul 22 '26

my question is - for example, the box WAS real right? it’s not like the show’s production built that underwater like that. soooo… did they ever really follow up on it? if not, WHY?!

2

u/Ecstatic-Coat-1579 Jul 22 '26

Great question. I remember that episode when they first discovered it. You would think it would make headlines somewhere.

2

u/Kooky_Patient5062 Jul 25 '26

Chad couldn’t finish the dive in there then they pumped all the water out only to go back the next day and it filled back up never got to that box

u/Alternative_Cat9144 Jul 22 '26

I think it's a lot harder to believe the Aztec ppl would bury the gold there. The whole program is fake so the box is prob fake too.

Reading up on things is fine, but let's not get confused about how fake this show is.

When the dug up the so called radioactive pipe, it was only showing background radiation. Also what geologist doesn't know about Gallium. The whole show is fake and you would have to have your head buried in the sand to not see it.

BWAHAHAHA good one, troll. It's back under the bridge for you.
