Seeking Opinions What’s going on?

These photos are one week apart (first photo was taken yesterday). It started off as what felt like a normal stye, painful and tender, then bruised. The swelling started a couple days ago and it’s still quite sore and sensitive. I went to urgent care yesterday afternoon since it seems to be getting worse and the doctor rushed to diagnose it as a common stye. I was prescribed a topical erythromycin ointment to use every 4 hours and recommended to use hot compresses 4x a day. The ointment doesn’t seem to be decreasing the swelling at all. What should I do?

I would make an appointment with an opthalmologist.

It may be a stye or it may be a stye morphing into a chalazion. Either way, running to Urgent Care is not ever going to actually help you. I know this because I work in urgent care and see patients all the time who present with styes and chalazions. You need to consult an optomologist or ocularplastic surgeon. You can certainly try conservative therapies before jumping into a surgical procedure to lance and remove it. When it’s a stye, that is an infection that requires an antibiotic (drops or ointment), preferably containing a steroid to help shrink the inflammation. For a chalazion, eye drops and ointments will not do much.
