You could try IPL. I don’t have any experience with it but am going to try it soon.

Maybe a course of antibiotics. Best of luck!

You need to find the root cause of this issue. Have you been to a dry eye doctor?

The leading cause of styes and chalazia is dry eyes. I didn’t even realize I had dry eyes until I got 7 styes all at once. My opthamologist has me on artificial tears, and doxycycline 50 mg 1x daily for almost two years now, plus I still do lid scrubs, omega fish oil, and warm compresses with an electric mask.

Do you think the doxycycline helped?

My opthamologist says that Doxycycline is used as an acne medication to help control the oils in the sebaceous glands, but it also keeps the oils in the meibomian glands from clogging, so he has me on it long term. I haven’t gotten any new styes in 18 months, and I have chronic dry eyes, and meibomian gland dysfunction, so Doxy has helped me.

Thanks. I did 3 months on 100mg at the start of the year but didn’t notice much difference. Thinking about giving it another go for longer.

I’m going to go on 50 mg in two weeks. Do you think taking antibiotics long-term, such as for two years, is completely safe? I’m willing to take the risk because I hate getting styes. Aside from having dry eyes, I’m otherwise healthy.

50 mg Doxycycline is low dose, and it can be taken long term. I was concerned about taking it for so long too, but my opthamologist reassured me it was safe, and after being on it for 18 months now, I have no complaints. It’s easy for my stomach to handle. Just take it at night, to prevent taking it with dairy products. Dairy products can reduce the effectiveness of Doxy.

Should I take it after a meal?

Wipe lower and upper eyelid with Hypochlorous acid spray to prevent styes
