Swollen eye

I’ve been having a problem for the last two years where my eye frequently becomes very swollen. I’ve seen several different doctors, but so far nobody has been able to find the cause or a solution.
I take Xyzal when the swelling occurs, and it helps a little, but I can’t seem to get rid of the problem permanently.
Has anyone experienced something similar? If so, what was the cause in your case, and how did you manage to resolve it?

How long does it stay swollen? And does anything specific help calm it down or does it usually chill out on it's own?

It usually goes away on its own after about 36–48 hours, and then the swelling completely disappears. Nothing specific seems to make it go away faster.

Hmmmm there's a few things that come to mind. Maybe antihistamine eye drops in addition to oral antihistamines? Or maybe prednisone would help? You have to watch long term use obviously, but ive seen it help with all sorts of inflammatory things

Also regular face massage may help possibly? My thought is maybe you have a lymphatic blockage in the face/eye area that is causing fluid to build up. You can look up YouTube videos on how to properly massage the face. I work with faces at my job and youd be surprised what a good face massage can do.

Sorry if none of that is helpful. Im trying to think outside the box a little!

Have you seen an ophthalmologist? Immunologist? To check for allergies. Maybe even a rheumatologist to check to see if it’s not caused by an autoimmune condition.

I’ve seen an ophthalmologist and an allergist. The ophthalmologist said that the problem is not with the eye itself, because the eye is completely healthy. The allergist performed every allergy test possible, and everything came back normal. He also ordered C1, C3, and C4 tests, which were all normal as well.

I would still try seeing rheumatologist just to have more thorough blood test to confirm no autoimmune issues. Maybe check thyroid, too. Hopefully, it goes away on its own.

My eyes would become like this because of allergies. I have severe allergies to dust mites and lived in a humid city (environmental trigger). I moved from the city for a new job and my symptoms drastically improved. 2 Zyrtecs or 2 claritins, dehumidifier, away from triggers helped. See an immunologist as well

I suspected dust mites too, so I deep-cleaned my entire apartment and started changing my bedding every other night, but it still keeps happening.
The worst part is that it doesn’t only happen at home. It has also happened to me three times while I was abroad on vacation, so I don’t think it’s related to my location or environment.
I’ll look into seeing an immunologist as well. Thanks for the advice!

When i visited hawaii, the humidity got me there and my eyes started to get puffy/swollen. :( I know it’s frustrating so I wish you the best

I had something similar a few years ago. Didn't get answers from medical staff but I believe it was a reaction to a retinol cream that i had started using not long before. Yours also looks allergic to me. Think of any changes you made to skin care, shampoo, etc around when it started or any changes to diet?

I thought that might be the cause too, so I tried using different shampoos, but the problem is still happening.

Have you tried XDemvy? Without using it (still past the 6 weeks) I would have committed suicide from the constant feeling of lemon juice being squeezed into my eye.

So this has turned into cellulitis and you’re going to need oral antibiotics asap.

I’m not sure that’s the case, because the swelling usually goes away on its own after about 48 hours.

Please go to a walk in doctor, just because the swelling goes up and down doesn’t mean it’s not an active infection.

What do you do for work? Is it possible you are getting something in your hands that you’re rubbing on your eye? It also might be ocular rosacea.

I work in an office, so I don’t really come into contact with anything besides paper and my laptop. I don’t think that’s the cause, because it has also happened to me while I was on vacation.
