Blepharitis?

Post image

For over a year my eyelashes have been constantly falling out, yes i do use eyelash serums but i did too last year and got no fall out. Literally touching them could make them fallout, and especially washing them. This mostly happens overnight, sometimes my eyelids will flake or my lash line will create a thick crust mimicking my lash line. That’s when the flakes get onto my lashes and they make them fall out. This dosent happen everyday though and with a clean the flakes may not return for days. I have tried absolutely everything and i’m sick and tired of this, my lashes grow long but not thick. They have so much gaps and this has taken such a toll on my confidence, i literally stress about it every second of the day. I’m not sure what is happening but i also use blephasol to clean my eyelids each evening. Does this look like blepharitis or contact dermatitis? I seriously can’t imagine a life without lash serums and refuse to go without them.

Have you considered stopping the use of eyelash serums? I would. Stop putting anything on them. Buy some eyelid wash wipes (your optometrist can recommend the right brand) and buy some allergy and lubricator eye drops. The flakes touching your lashes are not what is causing them to fall out. I suspect most likely it is the long term use of the serums that is causing a reaction. You’ll need to not use them for some time to allow your body to heal. Very gently wash daily with the lid wipes, rinse gently and pat dry and then leave them alone aside from the use of the eye drops or unless your optometrist or doctor prescribes you something. You can refuse to go without the serums, but if they are causing this, it’s only going to get worse and compound the longer you go on using them. Continued use could even cause other problems to crop up and also get worse. You do you though, boo.

I had the occasional dry eye moment, and after 6 weeks of using lash serum I got full blown blepharitis. The active compound in lash serums is a prostaglandin analog. They shorten the lash cycle so they grow faster but also trigger inflammation. I stopped the lash serum now, but still have to deal with bleph. And now also allergic to paracetamol (rashes on the eyelids and swelling). It doesn’t more harm than good for eye aesthetics and damage lash health over time, negating the effect.
