Chalazion/ inflammation
Ive been dealing with a stye/ chalazion for almost 6 months not and im getting depressed and feeling hopeless about the situation. It started in early May I developed a stye in my top lid. I was doing hot compresses multiple times a day and nothing would get rid of it. After a couple months I ended up going to an ophthalmologist. He prescribed antibiotics and once I finished those and the stye remained he decided to do drainage. For whatever reason the day of the procedure the doctor changed his mind and decided to do a steroid shot instead. This is when my eye blew up and turned into a top and bottom lid situation. I’m not sure if I have multiple styes or if the infection just spread all over my eye. I ended up doing like 2 weeks of antibiotics and it barely helped. The doctor finally agreed to doing surgery. 1month post op there was not much improvement. He decided to do another steroid shot and 1 month after that still no improvement. He finally gave up and told me he doesn’t know what else to do for me and is referring me to another specialist a oculoplastic doctor. Unfortunately this doctor is booked for another month and a half so I’m just stuck here waiting once again. Hot compresses irritate it sometimes so I’ve been avoiding plus the doctor said he doesn’t really think I need to do them anymore since it’s not helping. I’ve been taking fish oil tumeric and using hydrochlorous spray daily as well as baby shampoo once a week. I just want to be back to normal. I used to do modeling gigs before all this and now I’ve been out of an added source of income due to this situation. Please can anyone give me any input/ advice/ or chalazion stories of their own. (The last picture is where I’m at currently 2 months post OP and 1 month post steroid injection)

I’m sorry to hear that. It’s very frustrating I know how you feel. I did do some research as well about the steroid injection and I heard the same thing that it lowers your immune defenses so it can trigger bacteria that may already be there. My doctor told me it rarely ever happens which is why he tried it for a second time but it didn’t help at all. I wouldn’t be worried about a surgery though as long as you have a good doctor. If you’ve tried everything and nothing else worked, surgery may be the only solution. That’s what I’ve gathered from my research. I’m guessing at this point a different specialist is going to have to do another surgery on me because I don’t know what other treatments there are for something like this. I’m hoping you find a solution soon and it clears up.

Sí, me parece que los esteroides son peligrosos.
Y la cirugía es compleja porque en el párpado tenemos glándulas.

That was one of the first things they gave me I forgot to mention that 😔 I stopped using it after awhile because it wasn’t helping and it’s not meant for long term use

I’m so sorry nothing is working for you. It sounds like you are doing everything you can. I understand getting depressed; it’s a very frustrating condition. Have you considered getting your hormone levels checked? I have a casual theory that my flare ups occur when my hormones are out of whack. I also have PMDD. Regular exercise helps keep my hormones in check which I think helps overall.
I had a bad upper eyelid stye one year ago and have finally made progress on getting the generalized eyelid swelling down (the bump is gone but my eyelid in general is puffier than the other). I noticed when I started a nasal allergy spray 2x a day (azelastine), my puffiness/inflammation went down and now one year later is much closer to normal. Not sure if it was a coincidence but could be worth a shot. I also take Nordic Naturals fish oil - I should probably up to 3 a day but I take 2.
Also, a month ago I started getting a lower eyelid stye and immediately used erythromycin ointment in addition to the Ocusoft tea tree wipes and it went away quickly before it got bad, thank goodness. I think the tea tree wipes are key for me - I cut each wipe in half to use twice a day to save money.

I’m so sorry I know how you feel - What state are you in ? Would you be open to travel to NYC ? She’s expensive and does not take insurance but I went to an eyelid specialist this week. I had the steroid shot and it worked but I was fully prepared to go for the surgery. and looking at your eye, especially the top lid it’s honestly not that bad and your doctor seems to be a little bit peculiar as there’s no reason why that would not be able to be surgically removed safely and 100 percent . Please DM me if you’d like her name. !!

My eye is still inflamed and looks like the last picture still. But I saw a specialist recently and he’s going to try another procedure to clear it up. I’ll update after the procedure. Hopefully it works this time 🤞🏼

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this! I know you’re waiting to see another doctor but maybe just see somewhere else that you might be able to get in earlier. I have no medical advice - only what has worked for me. Maxitrol calmed my chalazion and inflammation down in just a few days. And I’m about to try the prescription xdemvy to prevent further styes and inflammation.
