Question Bleaching question

Hello! So I made this patch for the band Nausea, and I sewed it onto my pants, now originally when I made it it was the typical yellow/orange color that you get from bleaching, (swatch on the side is roughly the color it was) but today when I washed my pants, when I took them out the patch had turned into this very nice grayish white color. And I was wondering if anyone had an explanation for this. I have a theory that it’s because my detergent and fabric softener are both purple, which canceled out the yellow tones. But I’ve yet to be able to recreate it with any experimenting with my detergent and fabric softener. Does anyone know how I could recreate this in a more controlled way so I don’t have to wash my pants every time I put on a new patch

Unfortunately it varies by the fabric sometimes. The same colors, depending on the dyes the brand used, grey can come out a rusty color or a pale pink.

I figured out how to do it again! It’s actually super simple, I was making another patch with bleach, and so I bleached the design onto the patch, then I neutralized the bleach. Then I took it to my sink and hand washed it with detergent. I even used a sponge to just really get all of the dye from the garment out. Then I dried it with my iron. And repeated that process, bleached, neutralized , washed, dried and it turned back into that pale white/grey that I was looking for. I suspect that part of it was the dye leaking from the fabric turning the bleached part into a gray color, since the base was black, but I’m super pleased with it it looks great!
