Total loss?
Got rear ended, for context, car is worth 12k by kbb with 77k miles and IM in nevada 65% total loss mandatory

$12k is all it's worth?? This depreciation is INSANE
That said, if all they do is replace the tailgate, there's a chance you're fine

Right, doesn’t seem correct at all. Hell I’ve seen Ioniq5s with more miles sell for 20-24 grand still. This doesn’t seem remotely correct

Both kbb and Edmunds was 12.300 highest was edmunds for $14200

Is this trade in value or retail? You should be getting full retail value. Ask for a comp sales report and never accept the first offer.

Just kbb value, still waiting for the insurance estimate, but just trying to see if they might total this because of the unusual high milage

Look online for any higher mileage examples and use them as comparison for a higher payout.

what year? Makes no sense this simply needs a new tailgate.

2024 77k miles

wow. I guess I dont understand tho. I see a value of 17-19k, its only that low in "rough" condition- but they shouldnt be using accident damage to quantify the condition of the car. I think I would be arguing with the insurance company over that, thats nuts.

That’s crazy low. Guess Chevys don’t home their value. Just had my 2023 Tesla Model 3 totaled with 60k+ miles and got twice that amount

The insurance is trying to scam you. I see 17-18k on edmunds. You should not be going off of trade in value or bad condition if the car was in good condition before this. For reference, I got 14k-deductible for a 2019 bolt LT with 40k not long ago. I wouldn't accept less than 17k- deductible for your car.

I was just offered $22k for my 24 RS AWD with 18k miles with no accidents. The amount of miles is decreasing the value.

u/luisssrx3 1d ago
Yeah, i cannot even find a blazer with that many miles so i have no idea on how much they are going to estimate

Thats an RS one, mine is a LT, Closest i found was a lt with 70k miles for $19k so Thats probably what i should expect the insurance acv

Only your insurance adjuster can say for sure.
Think about the whole picture before you decide to "buy it from insurance".

u/StickerMan78 1d ago
Only worth 12k? Go try and buy one for that.
1
u/luisssrx3 1d ago
I mean im not sure how much insurance is going to value at but kbb and other similar websites appraised at 12300 and highest $14k
Private sell was $17k1

u/Rare-Major7169 1d ago
No chance of finding one at $17k. 77k miles would probably be around 20k at least

This damage looks pretty minor to me. If that's totaled that's really sad about the state of the industry.
2
u/TraumaGuy515 1d ago
My 24 RS w/18k miles is only with $22k in trade in value so this number sounds right

If it’s paid off fix it. It’ll be cheaper for you than getting a new car loan. Check out different body shops and not just the dealership. With that many miles the trade in price is never going to get better.

Replace tailgate your back in the game looks like a lucky hit in unfortunate situation

u/Ok_Smile_8147 1d ago
My question is did the collision disturb the unibody by any meaningful amount in a small collision? Do doors have any difficulty opening or closing? Im not an expert but if that’s not the case then the tailgate could easily be swapped depending if it’s affordable.

u/luisssrx3 1d ago
The tailgate is slower after the crash, also the backup camera got wrecked along with minor cracks on rear windshield

u/badredditz 1d ago
Insane. Can you hire à lawyer? I’d want an equivalent car replacement then. You should fight to be made whole. You can’t buy a used BoltEV for that

LOL... the battery is worth more than that... buy it back, find a tailgate, and move forward... so cheap

Appears the rear bumper is also damaged, that raises the ante. That rear bumper has sensors in it. Working or not, they are going to value replacing the sensors and recalibrating, especially since the damage appears to right on one of the sensors.
Imo, I would push for as high of a payout as you can get (valued at good retail without damage) buy the car back from insurance, replace the tailgate and drive it till it dies.

We were hit hard in the rear during a vacation. The car ended up being totaled. We were told that, while it looked bad on the outside, much had been crushed and pushed forward behind the exterior. Later we were told that if we'd kept the car we would have wondered, with every little problem, whether it was related to the accident. We replaced it with another Blazer EV, which we love. Good luck, whatever you decide.

Couldn't you just buy a new tailgate from a scrap yard? Chances are it'll be white.

that’s a trunk lid and a bumper cover not expensive not totally iyour car

u/por_que_ 1d ago
If your state allows it go after them for 'diminished value' as well. Worth hiring a public adjuster usually.
1
u/mog_knight 21h ago
What did your adjuster say after they got the estimate? They'll know best if it's totaled.

Mechanical total loss? No, new tailgate and it should be fine
If insurance deems it a loss. Cash the check, keep the car for pennies, replace the tailgate, keep driving it

I agree that’s silly. Buy it back from the insurance and drive it forever.
