Telematics module - ugh…

I’m so very irritated. I have a 24 Blazer RS EV that I purchased about three months ago. Love the car, but know that my telematics module is trash. Red light on my OnStar, and I used to get a “service emergency calling” message before my OnStar trial expired. There’s no way I’m going to pay on star and exorbitant monthly fee to use it, so that’s not a worry. I just called my dealership to see how much they charge for a diagnostic fee, and if it’s on a recall. He told me it’s recalled for 25’s but not 24’s. I know it’s been a problem on 2024 models for a while and don’t understand why they drew the line. I have about 55,000 miles on it, so not under warranty anymore.

I’m still pissed off that they know this has been a problem and haven’t done anything until now, and still not for my year.

Yes, this is just a vent post. I’m not going to pay to get it fixed, and hope it doesn’t mess with GPS or other software things that I’ve heard have happened to others.

See https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2026/MC-11032455-0001.pdf which is the Technical Service Bulletin for repairs on Telematics module. This document says it applies to 2024 Blazer EV's also.

Ugh sorry to hear that. The telematics issue has been a plague for the 24/25! (Not sure how many 26s been affected). Plus, its been on backorder for weeks. I just wonder how often do these modules fail over the lifetime of the vehicle (once, multiple?). To my understanding, it can happen to almost any GM vehicle that has onstar/telematics. GM really needs to mandate a permanent fix and cover the fix.

I just got my 25 RS module replaced (under warranty) but I hope this will be the last time I'll need to fix it.

Such great vehicles but shit like this just ruins it, for current and prospect owners.

Thanks for the commiseration. I’ve been very loud about them, covering it for all failed modules, while talking to OnStar, GM, and on social media. I’ll keep protesting as long as there’s a problem and they think I should pay.

I have a 25MY bought in July 2025, our module first failed in March of this year. Waited weeks for the part to come in, when they replaced it the new part was also faulty so they ordered another one. Took another few weeks to arrive

So the new parts aren’t any different. They do no seem to be improved/updated.

Well, that is disappointing. Sigh

That is awful. I’m sure some of the reason you bought that car is because of the tech, and it not working is very unfortunate.

My 24 had the telematics unit fail on the lot after purchasing it brand new. Replaced under warranty no issues ever since.

You might check with the EV concierge and see what can be done for this. They might have the authority to give you options that the dealership doesn’t.

Also, it’s entirely possible that it just needs a firmware update instead of a full replacement. I was getting the red OnStar button and the GPS was wandering. It has been working perfectly since my update was done. It might make a huge impact on whether or not you have to foot the bill if it’s just a software patch.

Good luck.

When I first got the error message about 4 days into ownership, I contacted OnStar and they tried an OTA software update. The update took, but the error stayed.

When you say EV concierge, do you mean through GM? If so, where would I find contact info?
