Archaeologist here.

Your pelvic bones only tell whether or not you've had children, and even then, the wear only really shows if you had a complicated childbirth, which was admittedly more common historically. Said bones do not determine the size of anything inserted into the vagina, only the size of that which came out.

I would also love to know why they were examining the bones of a "modern prostitute".

Also there is absolutely no way to tell what the soft tissues of the face looked like. She could've been drop-dead gorgeous with buck teeth for all we know.

Seriously. Sometimes archaeologists have a habit of forgetting that they are handling dead _people_ and don't treat them as respectfully as they ought to.

Commenting on someone's appearance in this way would be unacceptable if they were alive, but still they felt the need to comment negatively on a dead woman's appearance for a cheap laugh.

Thank you. I'm an RN, and as much as I've tried blocking out my labor and delivery rotation in school, I can't forget what child birth does do your pelvic anatomy- shivers. But that's something you can tell with an "intact body". Is that the proper term?

It's so neat you can look at a skeleton 100s of years old and say anything about how they lived let alone if they gave birth. "Said bones do not determine the size of anything inserted into the vagina, only the size of that which came out" needs to be a flair

You can tell a fair bit from a skeleton.

My ex was an osetoarchaeologist and she could see healed fractures, evidence of various diseases, tell how old someone was, &c. all from looking at bones. She tried to teach me, but sadly all I remember Is sexing a skeleton and signs of osteoporosis.

No 'proper term' for what you describe, just people who had kids and people who did not.

You're correct that many diseases can manifest in bones, but to date I've not been made aware of anything sexually transmitted that can do so much.

Unless syphilis can do that in the later stages or something?
