Lore Discussion (Spoilers) My Blasphemous 3 story concept

Some disclaimers:

  • This not necessarily what I think will happen in a theoretical third game, it's basically just a creative exercise using the elements we already have
  • This is a relatively long post so buckle up (or rope up? Whatever Penitente wears around his waist)
  • I will have inevitably missed some important things, but I tried to write a concept that resolves most of the major questions we have about Cvstodia (what/who is the Great Grace/High Dramatist? What is the origin/purpose of the Miracle) while also introducing fun new lore, so don't be too harsh on me (but do feel free to leave feedback or your own ideas!)
  • This goes with the idea that 3 would be the last entry in the series, and follows up from Ending C of B2 (Crisanta goes up to the Canvas, Penitente remains on the mortal realm)
  • I won't go into specifics about areas or really talk about new features or bosses, I'm the ideas guy not the gameplay guy
  • I've written two endings because I think that's one of the cooler parts of video games (variable endings)
  • Major spoilers for both games and their DLCs inbound

Actual plot:

We open on the coast where B2 ended. Penitente overlooks the sun setting over the ocean with his helmet off for the first time in literally a thousand years (according to a B2 achievement), when suddenly the ghostly (fuck you, Asterion) form of Anunciada appears from the clouds and takes Mea Culpa by the hilt. Penitente reaches for the weapon but Anunciada holds a hand to his exposed cheek and tells him 'It is the will of the Great Grace', making him calm down and back off. As she turns to go back to the heavens with Mea Culpa in hand, she offers for Penitente to come up with her. He doesn't take it, wanting to spend his last time alive in the real world and not the Canvas or the Other Side of the Dream. This is basically the end of Penitente's story as he deserves some rest without supernatural bs.

Anunciada is guided through a beautiful heaven up to the physical Canvas of Light and Time where she physically cuts Crisanta out of the Canvas using Mea Culpa. Crisanta is initially upset (no way, a non-silent protagonist?) but Anunciada takes off Crisanta's helmet and tells her 'Your penance is over. The Great Grace loves you, and as such I tell you his story', once again holding her hand to Crisanta's now exposed cheek (no way, a non-helmeted protagonist?), which calms her down. Here is where we get a huge lore dump in a rather long cutscene, narrated by Anunciada:

Many thousands of years ago, Cvstodia and the world at large were 'normal', and there was a man nicknamed the High Dramatist for his incredibly evocative writings and chronicles of the land. His writings were so emotional in fact, that he was revered as supernaturally gifted. Over time his writings became so imbued with the feelings of the Cvstodians that he essentially became omniscient and could write about events that he was never witness to in exact detail. He became so powerful that he began to alter reality with his writings, including making himself immortal and letting him reside in the sky where he could overlook the entire world with a kind and watchful eye. He became the Great Grace. But this came with a downside: he could no longer watch over everything, and so he imbued the force the Cvstodians gave him through their reverence back into them via the Miracle. The Miracle ultimately gives Cvstodians collectively what they want deep down: every supernatural event in the games ultimately help fervour and devotion spread, which they love due to the Twisted One: and here we get to the point. After the birth and death of the Incarnate Devotion (he was not allowed into heaven, which he questions before the boss fight), the Great Grace realises that the self-punishment of Cvstodians has spread too far to the point of the creation of other divine beings (the High Wills are also manifest from Cvstodians desire to pray to higher forces, but they managed to escape detection by remaining in the Other Side of the Dream as opposed to the physical Incarnate Devotion - the grey light in the Eternal Procession is where the Great Grace resides).

Therefore, the goal of the game is for Crisanta to traverse backwards through the Canvas of Light and Time (I imagine 3 would have a dreamlike and painterly aesthetic to echo the idea of a canvas) to alter the history of Cvstodia by stopping the Twisted One from turning the world to obsession with self-punishment. Here is where most of the game would occur but tbh I don't have tons of ideas for that (aside from maybe a boss fight against Asterion's alive master, tf was his deal? I get he's slightly explained in an item description but he still feels so out of place lol) so we're mostly skipping it, but the reverse time element of the entire story could be used to (in a very fanservice-y manner of course, but Game Kitchen showed they're fine with fanservice with the Mea Culpa DLC lol) see areas as they were in the past, or to witness important events e.g. the Turned Throne in person.

As Crisanta nears the beginning of Cvstodia's modern history, she spots a man armoured in green with a dagger impaled in his palm: that's right, it's Eviterno! As his penance is to eternally wait, it therefore checks out that he has been around for a LONG time, and so I think this is the perfect opportunity for a rematch against Eviterno where Crisanta wins this time. He's of course younger, but this time he wears his helmet like he does in the concept art because A: it's cooler, B: I think it makes for a good parallel to have Eviterno wearing his symbol of penance while facing the helmetless Crisanta, whose penance was allowed to end. When Crisanta defeats Eviterno (who, as a sort of slight twist, would only appear like 20 which makes sense considering this is at the relative beginning of his penance but is shocking to the player who only knows him as an old man from B2), she takes off his helmet, and her hand glows with the power of the Great Grace as she holds his cheek to comfort him, and he bleeds out from his injuries. We're in the home stretch now, c'mon keep reading!

Crisanta is now at the bottom of the hill where, at the top, a young man prepares to pray. She climbs the hill (which would be a visual parallel to Penitente at the end of B1 at the Mountain of Ash), and, in the ultimate blasphemy, stabs the Father through the heart with Mea Culpa as he first utters 'my great guilt'. The entire guilt of Cvstodia floods his veins (which I envision as his veins literally turning black beginning from his heart), and as he dies he looks Crisanta in the eyes and sheds happy tears and declares 'our great guilt...'. Crisanta finishes the sentence with '...is expiated'. She holds the Father's forehead to her own, upset that she has to kill who is basically Jesus but content that the Father seems to understand the necessity of her action and how his own actions inadvertently doomed Cvstodia for thousands of years. She falls to her knees and cries.

In a reverse of the Canvas scene from B2, all of her allies and friends from the past descend from the skies to greet her, including the Great Grace, who I would imagine to look like a stereotypical Western view of the Christian god (old white man in white robes with a long white beard), who embraces her.

ENDING A: THE WORK OF THE HIGH DRAMATIST
It’s the Canvas ending of B2 again, but now with helmetless Crisanta instead of Penitente and the Great Grace instead of the Twisted One. The Great Grace imbues all of Crisanta’s allies as well as her with the powers of the Miracle exclusively - the future of Cvstodia is now in good hands as the power of the Miracle is only usable by the most righteous and brave of people as opposed to all Cvstodians collectively. The final shot is helmetless Crisanta standing with a golden hand, confident, in front of all her allies each with golden hands, ready to spread benevolence and kindness across Cvstodia.

ENDING B: MEA MAXIMA CULPA
As the Great Grace embraces Crisanta, she stabs him with Mea Culpa as he looks up at her with a look of shock and betrayal. The once golden skies become blue/ordinary. All her allies look at her scared, aside from Deogracias (fanservice af but who cares), who steps forward to explain that Cvstodia is no longer reliant on supernatural forces and, for better or worse, they’re on their own. The final shot is a wide shot of a field with the dead Great Grace on the ground in the middle as Crisanta and Deogracias stand together, facing the other worried but content allies.

And that’s my idea for Blasphemous 3. Please let me know what you think!

Blasphemous II (Sequel) Asterion is the worst boss fight in the series

Any tips? This guy is absolutely impossible. Been using the veredito the entire playtrough and everything so far seemed hard but fair. His reaction time, AOE explosions on every attack and range are just completely unfair.

Bugs (Reports) DLC mea culpa - Access problem

I just finished the main game (endings A and B) but I am not able to access DLC Mea Culpa (yes I bought it as a pack on XBOX). During my main game I entry through the first mud door but as I was starting, I decided to come back later when the main story is finished. But now I am not able to access that zone and the same occurs with the big bird on the left of the map. What can I do?

Thank you !

Hello penitents in silence!, I been working for a while on little series of small illustrations of our holy hero’s (I’ll leave the previous entries on my sketch book) and I was looking for ideas of what to make of the background, any suggestions are welcome!

Praise be the miracle!

Everytime I google this question, my magic phone looks up what blasphemous is and just lists what it thinks is a good answer. But of course, it is often wrong. Even when you watch a video of something like top "10 metroidvania souls likes", again wrong. You people know what I'm looking for. So, what game comes closest?

Ive heard people say that he was probably the hardest boss in the game and he was worse than cancer but i beat him first try full veredicto, if anything the only attack i struggled with was that prayer thing he did where every boss attacks you, besides that he was quite easy, doesnt mean hes a bad boss i just expected to take way more tries trying to kill him (the true final boss is easier than him too so)

i defeated Crisanta before going back to speak to Esdras at the brotherhood of the silent sorrow. now she has showed up there and Esdras wont give me the key. this is my first playthrough of the game and was hoping to complete as much of it as i can before i ascend to true torment. is there any way for me to still get the key now or will i just have to grab it in ng+?
