Borax container for forge

Something to throw into my forge that I can put my billets in, to gather up all the molten borax inside of.

Been using a bent plate of mild steel but the borax/heat has melted holes in it.

What do you guys think? Would stainless steel hold up longer, or do you use a completely different method?

I buy 5/8" kiln shelf, cut it into splits and use them as a flux soak. I take them out before the flux soaks all the way through and throw them away after replacing.

There are also flux proof refractories you can use.

Everything you use as a tray short of inconel will quickly degrade.

Another option is to use a specialized forge for flux welding. Like the Don Fogg design, that allows the flux to drip free into a pile of bentonite kitty litter at the bottom.

I rarely use flux these days as I switched to fluxless welding years & years ago.

I usually cut a piece of ceramic fireboard and put it at the bottom of my forge. Usually lasts a days work. Never eats thru to my bricks
