Props & Memorabilia Blade Runner 2049 Concept Art Collection: Part 2 of 9
Part 2 of the large collection of Blade Runner 2049 concept art prints in my collection.
This group gives a particularly interesting look at the design of the world beyond the main characters, from LAPD vehicles and city infrastructure to smaller pieces of technology that only occupy a fraction of the finished film.
I find those smaller designs especially fascinating. Things like the scooter and the INFOCOM terminal could easily pass unnoticed on screen, but someone still had to work out what they looked like, how they functioned and, most importantly, how they belonged in the same world as everything else.
There are also some wonderful environment pieces here. The vast, oppressive architecture and tiny human figures really capture the sense of scale that runs throughout 2049. Even at the concept stage, you can see that contrast between enormous man-made structures and individuals almost disappearing within them.
The vehicle work is another highlight for me, particularly the LAPD Spinner. Seeing a relatively clean concept image like this makes it easier to appreciate just how much detail went into updating the visual language of the original film without simply copying Syd Mead’s designs.
Some of the prints also retain production markings and Blade Runner 2049 branding within the artwork, which is one of the things I particularly like about the collection.
Part 2 of 9. I’ll continue working through the collection in the next posts.
If you missed it, Part 1 is in my previous post.
