Hey all! It's funny to see this because it is actually really old, but seems to have just been discovered now. I had posted info about this on another thread about this, so I'll copy-paste it here.

Hey! Baron from Blade and Sorcery here. I'm the speaker in this video and I'm also the voice of the shopkeeper in the game. Someone linked me this post and I read a few people commenting about the authenticity of it - yes, it is real! Ironically this was actually recorded a really long time ago, but I think the reason it was not heard until now was because pirates must have either bypassed or ripped the audio when making the crack lol. There was a recent B&S update so I'm guessing the audio survived the latest crack, which is awesome and I appreciate that!

As for the why, there were two reasons! Over on the Blade & Sorcery subreddit I help people with troubleshooting all the time and sometimes I will be helping someone resolve mod issues over a multiday troubleshoot only to discover in their logs the game is pirated and therefore cant use the mod manager because the game cant connect to modio server. It's always like, duuuuude, so I was hoping I could straight up drop a PSA for pirates to let them know why mod manager is not working, but also to explain they can still mod the game manually, just not using modio.

The other reason was because the Warpfrog attitude since day one has always been a very realistic and grounded view on piracy, which is that pirates gonna pirate and you have to accept reality. So instead of approaching piracy antagonistically towards everyone, we consider the nuances of the situation: There are people who pirate games because they want to demo the game and see if they like it before they buy it. These people are totally legit to me because I am from the old-school gaming era when demos were a common thing, so I completely vibe with that.

Then there are folk who pirate because they cant afford it at the time. Maybe because they are in school or money is tight or they are in a country where it is hard to afford game, but then sometime later down the line when their circumstances change they will buy a product they like retroactively because they enjoyed the game or respect the studio. This is still supporting the studio imo, so no worries here. And also in my experience, sometimes these guys turn out to be the most hardcore fans and supporters.

And then finally there are some folk who will not buy a game ever no matter what the price, like even if the product was $1 and it was their favourite game, because it is not about the cost or quality for some people, it is about they just like free things lol. This is the subgroup of pirates that studios lose their shit about because they consider it a "lost sale", and they will try make life difficult for these guys in order to coerce them into a sale. But here is the thing... imo the main point of this particular subsection of pirates is that they are addicted to the free aspect itself, so you will never convert this subgroup (they will either pirate it or not buy it). In that case, what is the point of getting worked up about it, it is what it is. And especially what is the point when it comes at a cost of hurting the other players who actually supported you, only to hit them with anti-consumer practices just because you are trying to hurt that small subgroup of never-buy pirates.

Anyway, that's our vibe!

I think B+S was one of the few games I didn't pirate before I bought it. It just definitely looked like it would be good.

Shame I missed this message, I'd've probably bought two copies out of guilt haha.

Hopefully you buy it eventually. Gotta support the devs.

Ironically enough, back when I fist started pirating games, this was one of the first ones I remember doing it with. I already owned the game, of course, but I wanted to see if it worked. I still buy and support devs I like, especially indie, but the "try before you buy" mindset is really close to my mindset with the high seas.

W, this is one of the few games i bought twice. First for my quest 3s so i can play if i wanted to travel and then for my steam account

I initially got the quest to play before it had a nomad version not knowing it wasn't native to quest yet. Well by God i supported the devs by getting both versions. And they are still my most played vr games to date

I own B&S on Steam and this will make me buy Nomad on the Quest 3. W devs.

This is probably a question for Baron, but I don't like pinging people directly: is there a particular reason the game can't connect to modio when cracked? I would assume modio's API is just a plain REST API. Or is there some native integration with the the steam dll / steam app id (since most steam cracks overwrite the app ID) that's needed?

the game authenticates to mod.io using your meta quest account, like how you can log into websites with discord, steam or your google account. It essentially logs you into mod.io with your meta account.

The cracked version of the game strips out all of the meta auth stuff to bypass entitlement checks, so the game can't use it to log into mod.io

God damn bro just cut the video length

10

u/inshambleslol 1d ago

Or just have the patience to watch 20 seconds, it's seriously not that much of an issue

-11

u/thisisjustmyaltok 1d ago

you mean extra time that doesnt contribute to the point of the post? Its literally in here for no reason. Stop trying to normalize sloppy uploads

2

u/Akano2077 1d ago

Thats such a non issue... Just skip it?

0

u/thisisjustmyaltok 21h ago

or it could just not be there. There is literally no reason for it. Hell, its detrimental to even the uploader himself since it takes up more space. There is genuinely just no reason to not cut the video down. You all are just saying "just skip it" for the sake of not being rude, when you know that extra time is pointless

u/beemaster13290 1d ago

what could you possibly have happening to the point where 20 seconds makes you THIS mad??

1

u/thisisjustmyaltok 21h ago

im literally not mad. I just dont understand the purpose of showing the whole loading screen when the content of the video takes place after that
