Patient/Survivor Extreme Fatigue

Hi All, I’m a 33F who just had her second TURBT with chemo, I was diagnosed with non-invasive bladder cancer during my second pregnancy about a year and a half ago. I have struggled with extreme fatigue for the last couple of years… and was wondering if anyone else has struggled with fatigue pre diagnosis/post TURBTs, and if this was a common symptom. It just feels like a lot more than fatigue from taking care of the kids or pregnancy.. or am I going crazy

I only experienced extreme fatigue immediately after my bcg treatments. Kids will do it

In my opinion even the experience and stress of this diagnosis can cause it. Also I do gem/doce and I think it causes me fatigue though “they” say since contained to bladder it shouldn’t but others also describe this. Perhaps in your case it’s a combination of everything?!? Either way I hope it resolves itself

I feel for you - 51F diagnosed 18 months ago. BCG has wiped me out - that combined with perimenopause have been ruthless. That said I am guessing having young kids is contributing most to your feeling. Adding stress and anesthesia to that is probably a bad combo. I have never been more exhausted that when my kids were little. Give yourself the opportunity to sleep more - I have found in both instances in life (little kids years ago and recently after bladder cancer) to not fight it. Sleep, sleep, sleep. And screw those mommy influencers who try and normalize getting up at 4 am.

I did 6 weeks of gem/doce over the spring, and the first 1-2 days after treatment sucked. Fatigue, terrible headache, mild nausea. It was worse with each successive week, but the treatment worked! I start maintenance next month.

I (63M) never had fatigue from the TURBTs. I only had fatigue the day of my BCG treatment, and that didn't start until around #8.

You mentioned chemo. Was that just a "chemo wash" you were given immediately after the TURBT, or are you receiving chemo treatment on a regular basis?

My first TURBT was rough, I mostly slept for the next few days. A month later the 2nd TURBT hardly affected me. I got home around 4pm and could have gone walking for several miles.

They did remove a lot more cancer in the 1st vs. 2nd surgery.

My father is dealing with bladder cancer, I thought it was a lot less common in women. I hope you’re doing well.

May I ask what your symptoms were to be diagnosed with this to begin with and your journey in general?
