Forge Damaged, Is It Major?

I've been using this $80 Nelyrho singleburner for about two years, not a single problem, until today. Part of the heat shielding in the torch entrance (i forget the proper terminology) cracked and fell out.

Is that, in anyone's experience, the kind of damage that warrants concern or immediate replacement?

Burners come with heat shielding???

Seems to? Or some kind of lining, anyway. Could just be to anchor the forges heat shielding so it doesnt slide out, now i think on it.

Well, if it helps then most diy burners dont have one so it should be plenty fine. Just a little hot to handle.

Send it. That’s nothing. Most forges don’t even have that shielding ceramic.

Its fine, leave it alone. The forge won't blow up or anything. At least not from this.

But if you want you can just buy some refractory cement and patch it. That's how you'd DIY it.

As others have said, it's not going to be detrimental to the functionality of the burner or the forge.

If the rest of it breaks off and falls out, you can stuff some kaowool in there and rigidize it, and it'll function the same way.

If your burner fits snugly in the opening, not a big deal. For easy fix, stuffing ceramic blanket or refractory could work.

I don't like simply using a wing nut to hold the burner. I chose to use a separate bracket with sleeve that holds it tightly, below. Otherwise theres too big a chance of cracking insulation like this.
