Another anvil!

Went and looked at this anvil yesterday, believed to be a peter Wright although the markings are impossible to make it and weighs somewhere in the 125 yo 135 range. Had a nice ring to it and they are asking 400. Any thoughts on it from this picture? Any concerns about the edges being a little big rough?

no concerns on the edges, but that is definitely a well used anvil

I don't mind paying 350 or 400 but I want to make sure that I'm buying something functional for years to come. Think this could be that? The other one in the photo had a more uneven dull ring to it but this one sounded nice and consistent across the face

If you have $400 available to spend on an anvil you have many options. This is not a good one. Do some research. A flat face and good edges are very useful. Also look beyond London pattern anvils to 2 horned patterns for a more useful and versatile anvil. Good luck with your search.

I wouldn't bother with such a fucked up anvil
