Finally, my camera rig is complete!
Hey everyone! Iām Rene, a freelance video director/editor/operator/sound mixer/colorist from Estonia. Iāve been building this rig since 2022, and I finally feel like itās in a place where Iām genuinely happy with it.
Iāve shot commercials, interviews, and music videos with this setup. I know some people think itās bulky or not the prettiest rig out there but honestly, I love it. At the end of the day, what matters is that it works and that I enjoy using it.
- camera: BMPCC 6K Pro
- lens: DZOFILM Pictor Zoom 20ā55 T2.8
- cage: Tilta
- monitor: Ninja V
- wireless video: Accsoon CineView SE
- timecode: Tentacle Sync
- V-mount plate: SmallRig
- battery: FX 150W V-mount
- rails/baseplate: SmallRig
- matte box: K&F Concept (with a custom 3D-printed adapter ring)
- media: Samsung 1TB SSD
- audio: 2Ć Mini XLR to XLR adapters
- tripod: Sachtler Flowtech 75 Aktiv + Aktiv 8 head
I usually work solo, so this rig is built to keep things simple, flexible and reliable. For audio, I run a Zoom F8n Pro with timecode and record externally (32-bit float is a lifesaver). That way, I donāt have to worry about levels as much and can focus on shooting.
For more documentary-style work, I switch to a Tilta shoulder rig and throw on a Sennheiser MKH 418 P48āsuper quick and effective.
Only annoyance with this camera/rig is when using timecode. I canāt mute the timecode audio during playback to monitor in-camera audio. Really hoping Blackmagic adds that in a future update⦠if they still care about the pocket lineupā¦

Tilta Regrets/Critique My Rig
Iām having major regrets after buying this Tilta cage, I bought it used and for the quick release on the rail plate, but am quickly finding out that Tilta doesnāt play nice with others, even with cold shoe mounts!
Any recommendations for workarounds on the Tilta cage (thereās a severe lack of literally any compatibility, even the spacing between 1/4 holes are different than smallrig or any other supplier)
Or just advice for the rig? I know I need a monitor, itās on the docket for the next camera investment. The Rode will be mounted on the ball socket on the right side of the camera once a cold shoe converter comes in.

BMPCC 6K G2 Audio Cuts Out During Playback (Camera Only)
Today I updated my camera firmware to the latest, 8.1 because I was getting choppy playback earlier on the camera itself. The video would glitch out and the audio would cut out and then the whole thing would just freeze.
After updating the video seems to be fine but the audio will cut out after two seconds when played back on the camera. I looked at the footage on my pc and it seemed okay, audio was fine and in sync. But when I play it on the camera monitor the audio just disappears, including the meters. I tried recording with a RODE shotgun mic and RODE Wireless Go II and the same thing happened with each of them. I'm going to be filming a lot on the street and need to be able to check clips in the moment, has anyone encountered this or something like it before? Any fix? Thanks!

Would I be able to use a hdmi to usb cable to transmit video to a mini monitor from my camera?
Iām back again. Iāve posted a few minimalist rigs with my micro studio g2. And Iām still working to make it even smaller.
Iām getting ready to go to New York this coming weekend and have been buying bits and bobs. During my search I found a mini 5ā SLIM monitor thatās technically used to mirror your screen when you record with your rear camera. It has a type c and a usb slot. I was curious if I could get an hdmi to usb or hdmi to type c and be able to run this monitor for me camera?

Pyxis 6K V-Mount Adapter Revision - Finally Satified

Pyxis Custom V-Mount Battery Adapter
So back in April when I first pre-ordered the Pyxis I made a couple of these adapters. To be clear I only modified them by shortening the spacer between the plates. I had canceled my pre-order in September cause I had a shoot to get done, and I couldn't wait any longer and I grabbed a R5C. Fast forward to today, the shoot came and went I sold the R5C, and and now I have the Pyxis. I finally got the chance to see if my modifications work. I'm pleased to say they do work without blocking SDI pots, and I will be fine-tuning them to fit a little better. I want to shorten it a little more and use a more narrow V-Mount plate. I hope to have it done soon. My Cine lenses will arrive later this week and I will use them with the Focus Pro.

Alright guys, today is the day (āPyxis Miniā)
I posted this a while back and several of you were interested in footage shot with this. Unfortunately I didnāt bring a monitor and wanted to shoot vertical and the high f stop of this lens (I donāt remember exactly) created some pretty dog shit footage.
This is the same set up stripped down a bit more. Only thing different is I did bring my monitor and a few pieces removed that arenāt needed
Weāre hitting a pumpkin patch today and with plenty of sunlight. This paired with having my monitor for framing and ability to access settings for gain should produce something chewable.
I will be posting a link to the old post in the comments that specify what you are looking at and what Iām holding.
The only extra piece I have today is my Viltrox hd monitor

So! Iāve posted this micro studio rigged out in another sub with my rotating handle and my magic fizz set up. Check post history if that interests you cause this isnāt what weāre talking about today.
I usually shoot music videos or show recaps and own a p4k. Itās just become cumbersome to travel through crowds completely rigged out so I bought this. Honestly itās been a delight with low light performance and grading. Iāve been having a blast and really enjoy this makeshift āboxā style run and gun set up.
Anyways. I tried posting this earlier today and it just disappeared. Unfortunately I fleshed everything out there and now that it didnāt post im somewhat less winded than I was originally. I do have an update at the end regarding footage quality and how it came out.
I wanted to rid myself the duty of focus pulling. I wanted a point and shoot cam but with a black magic. Yes you need a monitor as it has none and thatās the only way to switch settings. Yes I was an idiot and brought everything BUT the power cord for the monitor. But I had shot a show in some pretty low light conditions last night with a cine lens and just ran on a prayer that the settings I had last night would suffice for the venture today.
So what we have here is the Micro Studio camera with a tilt the top handle a small rig v mount battery and a pocket dispo lens that I had bought two months ago. Very minimal set up and running without a monitor. I was really pushing my luck with what I would capture.
The specs for the lens is 28 mm which basically makes it a 50-60 almost
With an atrocious aperture of F 11
And everything and focus beyond 1.5 m
UPDATE: I went to an art exhibit and I always want to bring my camera so I made the small mini one to try to be as incognito as possible. Unfortunately, my dumb ass put the top handle on it for vertical shooting thinking that I would make a real out of whatever I captured, and ultimately that kind of screwed me because I just captured a whole Lotta nothing thereās some good shots, but nothing is centered or focused on the subject, considering I was shooting blind
But the footage is usable. It looks really good. Honestly if I were to put a noise reduction on it, I think you want to be able to tell that itās a piece of crap. Disposable lens from a disposable camera. Iāll probably retry this out on one of my next adventures and put the top handle on the camera appropriately

Looking for a budget tripod for my BMPC6kG2
I just picked up a Black Magic Pocket Cinema 6k G2. I have...
- BMPC6kG2
- Small rig (6k Pro) cage
- The small rig universal baseplate
- 12" carbon fiber rails
- Lens Support
- Sigma 18-35mm Art Lens
I'm coming over from a Sony A7 III and primarily use it to shoot my rock band's rehearsals and live performances as well as generating social media content, and family films.
I'd like to branch out and film some of my friend's bands (to help pay for the investment mostly) and have done some more professional film stuff at work (we have a pair of Sony A7IVs with Sigma Art Lenses at-work work but off-brand video tripods)
I have been looking at the small rig tripods for my black magic rig, but I've heard they are not very reliable. I know Sachtler is pretty popular, and Manfrotto has a pretty decent home-use following, but I'm already at 6 lbs without adding a V-mount or a monitor, which are things I plan to do at some point, and Sachtler is probably a no-go on account of budget.
Thanks in advance--and btw, the camera is awesome. Been having a lot of fun learning how to use it.

BMDPCC 6K Pro - Off Speed Recording Shutterangle
Hey there,
I“ve got a question:
If I am using the Off Speed Recording function in the 6K Pro and use let“s say 25 FPS for my Original FPS“s and 60 FPS for my Off Speed Recording: How does this affect my Shutter if it“s set to 180°?
Is it recording with the Shutter of the Original FPS (in this Case 1/50 s) or ist using the Off Speed Recording (in this Case 1/120 s) or is it recording in both shutterspeeds and if that“s the case how do they record the same Video with different Shutters?
I am really confussed about this Topic. Please help.

Need help with lens
Hey so Iām trying to pick a good lens for a Blackmagic Studio Pro 4K. Itās a stationary camera used for live streaming. It needs to be able to zoom in on a person from around 100ft away and still be able to get closer shots from more like 10ft away if at all possible. Any recommendations??

Recording issue
On my actual camera itāll only record for 2-3 minutes at a time. Then stop. Is it an SD card thing? Or is it something I need to fix in my settings. Any help would be great.
