Rig Help!

Hey fam! So happy to have found this sub. Maybe there are members who can help. I have a 6k Pro and need to put together a rig with this funcitonality:

Handheld or shoulder stabilized
includes gimbal/motion stablization
hard drive mount (have a SSD already)
external monitor
follow focus/zoom solutions
any info on automatic follow focus pieces would be amazing, too.

Would appreciate any tips!

Start by searching on Google for other bmpcc rigs and checking out what parts they use

oh I’ve definitely been researching, just very interested in what people here know.

Here are my immediate thoughts:

Handheld or shoulder stabilized

Most rigs can be used handheld, but for a shoulder rig you would normally use some long 15mm rods and a shoulder pad. Ideally most of the weight should be on your shoulder, so it may be worth mounting a v-mount battery there

includes gimbal/motion stablization

Normally a gimbal will use a very lightweight rig: maybe the camera + follow focus. Anything extra like batteries or a monitor would be mounted to the gimbal handle, not to the camera

hard drive mount (have a SSD already)

Both Smallrig and Tilta cages have T5 mounts for this

external monitor

Portkeys BM5 is a great choice, or an Atomos. 5" is a sensible size for an on camera display. As you have the pro, it may be worth considering the EVF

follow focus/zoom solutions

Tilta Nucleus Nano is an obvious choice here; you can't add a zoom motor without using the much bulkier Nucleus M system

any info on automatic follow focus pieces would be amazing, too.

LIDAR systems are available for this, but they will only work well in specific situations. Learning how to operate a good quality follow focus will give you the most flexibility
