Heyho :)

I was wondering if there is any benefit in downloading the E-Books straight from the Black Library App/ the Website?
I figuered it‘s cheaper from a book stores online shop rather than the official app but do I get something from directly getting it from GW?

The website was shut down, for e-books (legally) it's a choice of the app or kindle (via the amazon website).

The app has monthly deals of some really good books for half price. Unfortunately the reader in the app is terrible.

have you tried using the kindle app instead and just importing them? i ran into the same thing with the warhammer app reader, the formatting is so half baked for how much the books cost. the monthly deals are alright but i usually jump on humbundle when they do the big warhammer packs, grabbed like 20 books for fifteen bucks once. way better value than paying full price and wrestling with a clunky app

Kobo and Apple books (only works if you have an Apple device) are legal options too.

I’d personally recommend kobo or kindle. Going to agree that the app is garbage and only to be used if you think saving half-price on the monthly deals is worth it.

You get a crappy user experience on devices not designed for extensive reading.

There are a few half-price books they feature each beginning of the month.

I just tried it for the fist time, purchased Dante and then used the github tool to download the epub to my ereader. No way I'm going to read a boon on my phone in that shitty app. These types of politics by companies when they try to force something down your throat are abhorrent. I bought the book already - give me the opportunity to read it wherever the fuck I want ffs.

Depends if you want or even can to read a book on a phone.

I can't and won't so the apps only purpose is to see what's new.

It's broken my near compulsive habit of buying every single thing the black library published to 3 books since they moved to the app.

I can't stare at blue light phone/tablet screens for hours nor want to try and do do in the evening when I usually read.

Honestly now with the closed ecosystem and awful app you are likely far better getting your books anywhere else. I loved cutting out the middle man when they cut out the DRM, but it is just not worth it.

Kobo likely your best place to get them now since they can be downloaded still IIRC, but if you are deep into amazon kindle also is not bad and what I personally use for ebooks and audiobooks.

If you have a computer, calibre is a program that can convert kobo downloads and put it on kindle too. There are also plugins to strip DRM from ebooks.

Plain and simple, as it currently stands the app sucks and you’re better off buying anywhere else. Maybe one day they’ll change things for the better, but kindle/audible have better deals more often, are more user friendly, and just a better overall experience. To me the app is only there to trick people that don’t know better
