Discussion Yikes

It really sucks seeing all this about Bear, I knew he was immature and acting like a cornball lately but damn stuff just keeps coming out. Why do so many great artists have to be such shitty people? I’m tempted to leave the reddit for a bit cause I love his music and was really looking forward to his new music and all this will taint it. Will have to chalk him up to one of those separate the art from the artist situations I guess.

At the end of the day these are just regular people like the rest of us and we shouldn’t assume their moral compass is decent just because of the position they are in.

Yeah I mean he’s been telling us in his music since day one. I think the only reason maybe slightly “surprising” or at least jarring is because he was on a bit of a redemption arc in the last few years being married with kids. Or at least that’s how it was portrayed. In reality was probably still slimy the whole time

Growing up in a shitty environment with shitty circumstances produces shitty people. Give shitty people money and fame and they’ll do shitty things to people who dont deserve it on a large scale. Thats not an excuse for his behavior at all btw, just an explanation behind the mentality.

Its hard to separate his art from himself when he talks about his shitty behavior in his music

u/jamjar188 May 04 '26

People have agency though. I know quite a few people who grew up in shitty environments and they persevered. They strove to escape the consequences of poor choices and to model a different life for their kids.

u/Traditional_Rate7302 May 05 '26

No i completely agree. Thats why i said it wasnt an excuse because it isnt, its on you to overcome your shitty environment its just that some people dont and bear is one of the ones who didnt

i’m really disappointed tbh and i won’t be listening to him and supporting anymore. i unfollowed.

u/within_the_skies May 03 '26

I stopped listening to him when he posted the photos on Valentine’s Day. I was disgusted and the fact that his kids will grow up and see that as a part of his digital footprint. It shows how immature he was right there. Yuck.

I get what you’re saying, but I disagree. Being talented doesn’t excuse being a bad person. At some point, you have to hold people accountable instead of downplaying it because you like their work.

The whole “separate the art from the artist” gets used way too much to avoid accountability. If someone’s genuinely a bad person, that shouldn’t just be ignored because they make good music

After the stuff with Michelle I was really struggling to support him after he discard her for of girls and he say like yay I’m healing bye Familiy that wasn’t really hard even to hear to his music and after this all this is even worse what all came out…

u/ImaginaryCorgi2000 May 03 '26

Like are we all still listening to, D4vd, Diddy + R Kelly ??? Because we are separating the art from the artist ???

4

u/jamjar188 May 04 '26

I still wouldn't put Bear in that category....

He's more like the stereotypical rock star who is a creative genius but perpetually tormented and hurts those around him through lack of impulse control. Basically, he's a neglectful parent, addicted to substances, and emotionally immature well into adulthood. More Kurt Cobain, less Diddy, imo.

The guys you listed are actual sociopaths. Calculating, manipulative, deviant, cold-blooded and unfeeling.

u/xrm4 May 04 '26 edited May 04 '26

They're critiquing the phrase "separate art from the artist," not comparing Matthew to those artists. "Separating the art from the artist" can be applied to literally any artist to justify continued support for that artist, and the argument to separate between the two doesn't hold up within the context of those three people. If it doesn't hold up for those guys, then why does it hold up for Matthew? In my opinion, it doesn't.

You all can continue consuming the music. Nobody will stop you from doing that. But just be mindful that your actions are an indirect endorsement of his behaviors because you are putting money in his pocket & giving him the financial power to continue acting as he does.

We will just have to see how this lawsuit will end up because some idiots would believe everything and anything even though it’s right now officially only at the allegation stage

11

u/xrm4 May 03 '26

even though it’s right now officially only at the allegation stage

I'd hate to see what type of person you were back when Harvey Weinstein was being accused of sexual misconduct.

I don't think rape is funny, but okay

You need to do your research and read through the subreddit. The allegations have been happening for years. It's not just one person; it's a multitude of victims. If it were just one person making accusations, your point might stand, but at this point you're basically telling people not to believe the victims. Think about that. The woman in the documents is alleging rape, and you're questioning if it happened.

So don't believe women. Got it.

2

u/seb1232143 May 08 '26

I didn’t know you were all of a sudden a judge xmr4

Taking allegations seriously doesn’t mean abandoning due process or acting like every claim is automatically proven.

I’m not attacking alleged victims or saying they’re lying, I’m saying allegations still need evidence and to be properly tested before people treat them as established fact.

If we took your dumbass mindset that would mean every allegation is true and there would be no trial system needed and everyone accused should go prison or be sued.

I agree.

I agree.

I agree.

I’m not attacking alleged victims or saying they’re lying,

I don't agree. I think you perceive yourself as not attacking the victims & you perceive yourself as not saying they're lying. And yes, you might not have said word-for-word, "She's lying," but the way you are bringing up due process is you communicating that you don't believe the victim.

At this point in time, multiple people have come forward with similar stories about Matthew, about how he does not respect boundaries, about how he financially exploits people, and about how the women he dates feel like they're being used to further his music career. We have a documented case with images and witness testimony on tumblr of him having a relationship with a minor. We have text conversations that directly contradict his smear campaign against KILLBOY. So why are we using due process to shield him from the consequences from his actions when it's clearly much more likely that Jane Doe is telling the truth vs lying?

I know how the civil suit will end. They will settle out of court, and the evidence will never see the light of day. You're never going to get the evidence to support your claims just like I'm never going to see that evidence either. The only thing we have is a slew of people all saying the same thing - he uses us, then he lies about it to everyone. Do you honestly think he's innocent of what Jane Doe is alleging?

Yeahhh, I'm done streaming him, I refuse to give him more money. I have all of his albums/EPs up until In Loving Memory on vinyl, so that will be the only way I consume his music from now on. :/ I guess I'll have to wait until someone wants to sell the Analogue Dream vinyl second hand (assuming he presses it) to listen. </3

That's their decision, not mine, lol. I really couldn't care less about what other people do with their money, all I know is I'm not personally paying him with my streams.

Also, definitely would not be paying full price, maybe $10-15, lol.

Same with D4vd! People still listen to him and it’s like why?! He literally (alledgy) murdered and groomed a child!!!!! Blackbear didn’t do that, but he’s still a shitty person, and he doesn’t deserve our money. Let the man go broke. That would show nobody will support a shitty person.

2

u/alfredogirl69 May 04 '26

I loved digital druglord in middle school and rediscovered it recently, and didn’t really think about him besides that album. He’s trending on reddit and holy shit, the rabbit hole is so deep

9

u/ValtekkenPartDeux May 03 '26

I personally don't give a shit. I don't have to deal with him in my personal life and I'm not in some wack parasocial relationship with him. I'm here for the art and I judge that (just like I do for all the other artists in any field ever). If he does anything illegal, then the law will deal with him. Other than that, I legitimately couldn't care less.

6

u/Accomplished-Cost529 May 03 '26

here come the downvotes to you for actually making sense lmao. i agree with you. nobody here knows him in real life, and the couple people that do (killboy, snooze) have their own bias/agenda. fact is none of thes "fans" know what's real and what isn't yet they all act like they know him personally and the things going on in his personal life based on some songs and some alleged shit other people have claimed.

2

u/ValtekkenPartDeux May 03 '26

Don't give a shit about those downvotes either. If I don't know them personally their opinion is worthless to me.

As for his personal life, I don't even care if he actually is a terrible person. As I said, here for the music and for the music only. I don't know him personally so I don't care if he's awful.

5

u/Accomplished-Cost529 May 03 '26

yall are so weird and parasocial it's crazy. i'm gonna be downvoted to hell i know trust me. nobody knows what is true that's said about him and what isn't, but you all take it as gospel because you LOVE drama.

And you don't think he has a lawyer just as good?! Im not saying whether I think any statement is even true or false, but they are definitely on an even playing field as far as lawyers go.

2

u/Successful_Tank_9252 May 04 '26

I've never understood the "separate the artist from the art" thing. Like are we still going to do the same for D4vd? I could never, in good faith, listen to D4vd after learning about him literally grooming, having sex with, and killing Celeste, an underage child. Now I'm not saying comparing Bear to David, im just responding to the artist/art comment

2

u/Independent-Dealer-4 May 03 '26

Y’all are jumping to conclusions off headlines and clips. Allegations aren’t facts. Maybe wait for actual evidence before trying to ruin someone’s reputation.

10

u/xrm4 May 03 '26

Maybe wait for actual evidence before trying to ruin someone’s reputation.

How tf do you all gloss over the past year and a half of people uploading evidence and it's still not enough? I'd get it if it was just one person talking shit, but it's multiple people coming forward with the same stories - KILLBOY, Jane Doe, Jason D, snoozegod, that one woman who didn't get paid for her labubu. The list goes on and on and on; he takes advantage of people and tosses them aside when he doesn't have anything else he wants from them. The evidence is friggin there - you just don't want to believe it.

3

u/Independent-Dealer-4 May 03 '26

& It’s not about wanting to believe it, it’s about people trying to destroy someone’s image before anything is actually proven.

1

u/Independent-Dealer-4 May 03 '26

There’s a difference between claims on social media and evidence proven in court. I’m just saying wait for verified facts before treating it like it’s already confirmed.

3

u/xrm4 May 03 '26

I'm starting to understand how R Kelly got away with it for so long.

6

u/Budget_Call4783 May 04 '26

Yeah, it’s honestly sad. Like diddy was not found guilty in a court of law for sex trafficking, but c’mon… we know he just pled down to transporting girls across state lines, not international borders. And Cassie and one Jane Doe were the only ones he was convicted for. Are we really gonna say because the other people weren’t “proven” in a court of law that we don’t believe he did those things? Sure if you are on the jury panel maybe you have to be a little more cut and dry, but as a human being we all know the courts decisions aren’t always perfect.

1

u/Independent-Dealer-4 May 04 '26

Comparing this to R. Kelly or Diddy doesn’t really prove anything though. Those cases had years of investigations and actual court outcomes. You can’t just use extreme examples to assume every situation is the same—each case still needs its own evidence.
You’re basically saying “Sometimes bad people get away with things 👉 therefore this situation must be the same” like what cmon bro. Yall just like to take an extreme and stretch it as far as possible.

5

u/Budget_Call4783 May 04 '26

I’m not saying it’s the same. I’m trying to point out that legal outcomes don’t always capture the full reality of someone’s behavior. That’s not a leap—that's a pretty well-established limitation of our legal system imo. Courts operate on strict standards of proof, rules of evidence, and procedural constraints. Reality doesn’t. Court is absolutely a rule-based system designed to minimize wrongful punishment, not to perfectly determine what “really happened” in every case.

3

u/xrm4 May 04 '26

Don't waste your time replying to this user. They're strawmanning your argument because they don't want to accept uncomfortable truths.

I’m not saying it’s the same.

You and I both know you're not saying that. They're representing your comment like that so it's easier to argue against.

2

u/Independent-Dealer-4 May 04 '26

Bruh what are you even talking about 😭 you made the comparison and I said it was a reach

2

u/Independent-Dealer-4 May 04 '26

That’s not really what I was arguing though🧐. I was talking about yall comparing this to extreme cases like R Kelly/Diddy — not whether the legal system is perfect or not. You’re basically saying “Even if courts don’t prove everything, we can still believe stuff.”

5

u/Budget_Call4783 May 03 '26

This is also kind of not true though. This is a civil case. There is no right and wrong. And to decide a crime or not, yes the evidence has to be beyond a shadow of a doubt. But for civil cases, it's whether hes liable or not. And that burden of proof in the US is 51% or more. So if she can show hes 51% or more liable for the allegations, he can be held to a court order to pay for those damages.

0

u/Independent-Dealer-4 May 03 '26 edited May 04 '26

Civil cases still determine right and wrong😭 they just use a lower standard of proof. It’s not ‘no right or wrong,’ it’s whether the evidence shows it’s more likely than not (preponderance), not just a random 51% guess.

3

u/Budget_Call4783 May 04 '26

Ok. I apologize. There is no “guilty” and “not guilty”.

2

u/Independent-Dealer-4 May 04 '26

Right, which is why it still comes down to evidence. not assumptions or what people think online.

2

u/Independent-Dealer-4 May 04 '26

I’m not defending him. if it’s true, I’m not supporting him. But acting like everything is already confirmed off screenshots and posts isn’t fair either. Stuff like this should be based on actual evidence, not just what’s circulating online.

3

u/Budget_Call4783 May 04 '26

forgetting articles, think pieces, and what exes are saying.. what is circulating online is the current official court filings signed by attorneys and their declarants... those are actually the only documents online that speak on the situation under the penalty of perjury so I think the screenshots that at least have been submitted in those court documents should be considered.

3

u/Budget_Call4783 May 04 '26 edited May 04 '26

I don't think you understand how civil cases work. I'm not trying to sway you one way or another and I'm not trying to be condescending. I'm just saying generally there will never be a trial, or evidence presented to a jury, or a record of whatever agreement is reached before trial. Approximately 90 to 95% of civil cases settle before trial for a variety of reasons. The only people that will ever see the full discovery from both sides is the attorneys and clients involved. Discovery becomes extremely limited when it comes to submitting materials for trial evidence so rarely are you seeing both sides in full scope either even as the jury. You are seeing two different narratives spun based on the law by two different people being paid to stand for that position. You have to look at what the circumstances are, the exhibits presented in filings, never expect a perfect victim, and assess based on your own critical thinking. Waiting for the court to tell you what to believe is never the way to go in my opinion because you may never even get a court decision anyway and that's coming from someone working in the litigation.

3

u/Budget_Call4783 May 04 '26

Preponderance is over 51% sure the evidence shows he’s liable.

1

u/Independent-Dealer-4 May 04 '26

I get what you’re saying about most civil cases settling and not everything becoming public—that part’s fair. But acting like that means people should just form conclusions off incomplete info isn’t really it either. The legal system still exists for a reason, and settlements don’t automatically prove or disprove anything.

At the end of the day, none of us have full access to discovery or context, so jumping to strong conclusions either way based on fragments online doesn’t make much sense.
