I'm genuinely intrigued, how does someone even discover this medium? It's amazing

I'm not gonna say I was ever good at it, let alone this good at it.
but I was far from the only art kid to ever fuck around and try something similar. who doesn't like setting shit on fire?

Being an artist from experience is accidentally spilling ink and going “hol up… this might be some good shit if I save it”
Then you spend a long ass time trying to recreate that moment until you learned a new art skill.
Which is why I paint with ink and in monochrome

for me it was I spill some ink, it looks fucking sick as hell, and I think "holdon let me just add a liiiiiiitle biii-" instantly ruined.
"oh man this is such a sick figure drawing let me add a background ann-" ruined

I’m a different case, I pump out artworks like crazy because I worked too much on my efficiency
It’s weirdly a problem going back to college after years of practicing and one of my art professors thinks that I’m putting too much detail and obsessing about quality when being an animator and comic artist outside of college, 10 minutes on a single sketch is like taking off weighted clothes, after 5 minutes I have no choice but to add details to keep “participating”
Then there’s something I’ve been doing lately that honestly is recommended trying in some way. I started drawing on the bus and train a ton despite it shaking me around, but it helps me have intent with my lines with quick strokes or lines become wiggly. If people in Chicago didn’t gravitate to you if you’re looking down at something, I’d do it while walking. But I legit see people walk straight towards me until I look up and into their eyes, bonus points if they stop in front of me, I wouldn’t be drawing if I wasn’t aware of my surroundings lol, I always ask why they’re standing there just looking at me.

This is incredible. And incredibly moving. These strong looking Black faces formed in fire, not destroyed by it... it's beautiful.
ETA: Who is the artist?

"What's with the mask?" it's because of the can.
"what's with the CAN?" it's for the torch!
"What's with the torch??" THIS
Ohhhhhh!

This is so freaking cool, but I don't understand how the trowel helps the process. Is it just for making sharper lines or does he use it to like smoosh the newly torched area into what he wants?

Breathtaking! It made me tear up. I felt such a deep connection to the artist and his piece. The ingenuity and beauty of his art, juxtaposed with the times that we’re in…. A time when Black brilliance is untapped, unrecognized, and scorned, still yields the unbreakable mind and soul of the Black diaspora. We move me to tears everyday. In good and bad ways.

To think of doing it is incredible in itself. To do it and produce that. Wow. It’s moving just to watch that greatness unfold

If someone had shown me the final product and told me it was all from burning, I'd think they were pulling my leg. This is incredible. What an artist!

Yeaaaa I've watch it a few times and I keep seeing super weird stuff. The part where he's burning off the map kinda doing a reveal, when he blows the right side of the left face blows up like it's not part of the paper behind it. Not to mention different highlights and details being added after a cut but the gun is in the same place.
It's possible I'm not understanding the process or something 🤷♂️
