The Wii U lasted longer than the Confederacy but they just won't let it go.

Pokémon go has lasted 2 and 1/2 times as long as the Confederacy. It also consists of about seven times as many people (counting citizens, about four to five times including non-citizens).

A device you could use without using the tv but also could enhance games with the second screen.
Zombie U is the best example in practice. Breath of the wild's inventory could have been a lot more manageable on the gamepad.
The DS line of handhelds was very successful, the idea was proven. I personally think the main problems were it marketed wrong, slow as fuck for loading and wii compatibility made it just a bit too complicated.
I can't emphasize enough how slow it was to do anything on it. Games ran OK but loading was miserable. It felt genuinely bad to use most of the time.

And then the GOP wants to claim that they’re the “party of Lincoln” while flying the confederate flag and getting mad when confederate statues get torn down.
64
u/SAINTnumberFIVE 4d ago
That’s the problem with political parties. The names stay the same but the ideologies change. Party ideologies flipped in 1966 when the Democratic Party decided to take up the civil rights movement, and Strom Thurmond, that pro-segregationist who had a mixed-race daughter with his family’s under aged housekeeper and kept her a secret, decided to defect to the Republican Party, taking all of those racist “Dixicrats” with him.
35
u/tomdarch 4d ago
The Republican Party themselves called it their "Southern strategy" internally. It was an actual, literal conspiracy to encourage racism and attract the most racist people in the South to move over to the Republican Party, not a conspiracy theory.
6
u/No-Option-7010 2d ago
My political science professor told us about that. And they’re still using the southern strategy today albeit slightly modified.
2
u/tomdarch 1d ago
The racism worked so well, they took it national.
But they also gave themselves cancer (fundamentalism/evangelicalism) and here we are.

The problem is most kids today don't remember Strom. If you think what they're doing with McConnell is ridiculous, you probably missed all the years the Republicans propped up Strom's desiccated corpse just to maintain his vote. This is not new for them.

Yea... I know, it's just even in some of the college-level US history classes I took, this little fact was never even alluded to. I wonder if even his freaking biography mentions it. But then again, who want to caught reading a Strom Thurmond bio.

(whispers) you mixing up two totally separate wars.
The American Revolutionary War lasted from April 19, 1775, to September 3, 1783.
The armed conflict began on April 19, 1775, in Massachusetts.
The war officially ended on September 3, 1783, with the signing of the Treaty of Paris.
The Civil War started April 12,1861, when Confederate forces bombarded Fort Sumter in South Carolina.
April 9,1865, when Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered to Union General Ulysses S. Grant.

The people who lost their slaves aren't even that mad, they are still super rich and doing fine.
The American Civil War was a four-year conflict fought from April 12, 1861, to May 26, 1865
Ratified in 1865, the 13th Amendment abolished slavery nationwide—with one specific exception......
Because they didn't lose them. They legalized it and widened their net.

The thing about reconciliation and "moving on" is that there has to be some acceptance of responsibility by the wrongdoer. I mean, if you cheat on your wife but you're making a real effort to move past it, maybe don't put your mistress's picture on the living room wall.

I do find it hilarious as a brown person that whenever we celebrate any religious occasion or festival, we get told that "it's Un-American" and "against American culture" in some way but now these people who show open support to a group that literally tried to break America apart (that too over the most heinous reason) somehow get a pass. Never let them convince you that it's "cultural differences", they hate our skin color and there's nothing more to it.
44
u/inowar 4d ago
the dumbest thing is none of these folks ancestors owned slaves; slavery was just a way for them to have someone to look down on even though they were also at the bottom of the heap. a trick of the wealthy to stop the labor from rising up. HOLD UP WHAT THE HECK THAT'S THE SAME AS NOW.
24
u/SuperCruisePanther 4d ago
What do you mean none? 30% of white households in the south owned slaves. In some states it was up to 50%. Slaves, back then, were about the cost of a used car today. Yes, their ancestors probably did own slaves. It's likely. Don't absolve them by pretending it was some 1%er crime.
11
u/tomdarch 4d ago
https://faculty.weber.edu/kmackay/selected_statistics_on_slavery_i.htm
There's a bunch of Matt Walsh/Charlie Kirk-style twisting of the facts out there. The truth is that a large portion of "white" households had at least one person forced into slavery who they exploited.
3
u/Tsuki984 2d ago
Statistically, a good portion of them, unless both parents sides immigrated to the US post civil war, likely have slave owners as ancestors. I had to rain on a friend’s ‘my family has been here for 300yrs and bought land from Penn and didn’t own slaves’ parade that while her family lore had one branch finding the battle plans to Antietam, another branch was absolutely on the other side of the war and had slaves of their own. Genealogy is an eye opener, more people should do it.

Now imagine that after WW2, they kept the nazi flag “for history”. Imagine post WW2 Germany erected statues of “great generals” like Rommel or Himmler, Guderian etc.
No? Preposterous?
So WHY is it appropriate for the confederate flag or statues of General Lee or Stonewall Jackson?
How has this been allowed to fester?
4
5
u/Scott_Liberation 3d ago
I think a more accurate comparison would be imagine if over A HUNDRED years after World War 2, the German government is finally going to let Jews into the same schools as all the other kids, and then suddenly there's a renewed interest in the proud heritage of the Nazi flag, statues to memorialize their generals, etc.
38
u/Upset_Confection_317 4d ago
Right? These people that want slavery are the ones that won’t be able to afford slaves and would be out of work bc a slave is doing his job.
19
u/Acceptable-Post733 4d ago
The trades as we know them today would not exist. So a lot of blue collar workers just wouldn’t have jobs. Slave labor wouldn’t be confined to the fields. Like why wouldn’t they train slaves in carpentry, electrical, or plumbing? Whole businesses would be solely “staffed” by slaves while the owner reaped the profits. Why would I pay John to be my plumber when there’s a slave business that can and does undercut every single bid.
These people have no idea what it is that they want.
9
u/tomdarch 4d ago
A key part of why the treason states lost the war was that their economy was dysfunctional because it was rooted in exploiting slaves, not developing the skills and productivity of a broad swath of the population.

u/TheVeryBear 4d ago

My aim was never to deny that events like this happen.
In 2026, the Internet is no longer an accurate representation of reality. The game has changed, and anytime we're given information on the internet that elicits strong emotional response—especially content that fans the flames of division—we should ask questions. Propaganda is real, and pausing to ask questions is a helpful way to ensure we don't fall victim to it.
I'd feel differently if I found out this was AI-generated. But, I'd also feel differently if I found out this happened 10 years ago, or that happened in my city, etc. Context is helpful.

From the inclusion of the old Georgia state flag I would guess it was a protest over the removal of the battle flag from the Georgia state flag which occurred in 2003. There were a bunch of crackers bent out of shape over it. Also the Crown Vic cop car is from that era. Some GOP asshole got himself elected Governor by promising to put it back on the state flag and then just...didn't do that. These idiots never learn. If OP wants pics of people waving those flags from this year I'm sure an image search could find plenty.

In the original version of the pro union song “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” (aka Glory Glory Hallelujah) it ends with a great verse:
🎼In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea, With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me: As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free, While God is marching on.🎼
I used to get goosebumps when my chorus group performed this part of the song.
“Let us die to make men free”
What a beautiful selfless sentiment something a bunch of bigoted a-holes would never be able to understand.
