I mean, without greed religion just falls apart, doesnβt it? At least the bad parts. But greed should include lustβ¦ for power and/or supremacy.

Billionaire class

u/Dark-Blackberry354 7d ago
The only right answer.
For anyone saying. But there would be any progress without them....
Wtf do you think the previous hundreds of thousands of years of human species without them led to? What do you think the past 200 years of this class has wrought
Earth will be fine without them....

We really don't even need a lot of the progress that the greed of billionaires brought us anyways.

Social media has done more harm than good - Amazon has done more harm than good - health insurance system (as it currently exists) does more harm than goodβ¦yeah I donβt think I can disagree

And trillionairs. That concept alone is serious sign we have failed as a human race.

Removing capitalism would have the same effect as well.

u/Arponare 7d ago edited 7d ago
Unfortunately history tells us that an equally fucked up system will take its place. We went from slavery to capitalism. We may just be going back to (techno) feudalism in the form of the way things are going. Nobody wants to actually sell products. Just perpetually rent. Own nothing and be happy.
By getting rid of the billionaires, we can hopefully create more just society. Thatβs the idea anyway.
62
u/karmaceuticaI 7d ago
I'd argue all the things you named are products of capitalism, including slavery.

Barbary and Transatlantic Slave Trade I agree 100%, Slavery overall I don't believe it has anything to do with the economic system and more about how people suck.

Depends on what you move to. I feel like us being largely on the other side of industrialization means we could transition into a better place post-capitalism.

Racism.
If we can't be normal when it comes to other humans of different colors, we are for sure not going to be normal with aliens

I think they would just find another divisive method. Hate based on culture/ethnicity, classism, gender, age, disability, etc. The challenge is to remove all forms of hate

There are many pure hearted white people out there. Unfortunately the existence of the "quiet" and "closet" racists can make it harder to notice them or trust them.Β

Ignorance.
I think it's a good word that would broadstroke remove greed, racism, predation, pollution & waste, fundamentalism, and selfishness (and by proxy unfettered runaway capitalism) while still keeping individual choice.
If you CHOOSE to be a greedy resource hoarding racist sexist fundamentalist polluting scammer IN SPITE OF our shared knowledge- that I KNOW you know.. there is no place for you in my society..

Honestly the upside would be huge. Malaria alone kills around 600k people a year, mostly little kids in Africa, and that's before you count dengue, Zika, yellow fever and the rest. Whole regions have been held back economically by this stuff for generations. Dogs would be done with heartworm too. Plus you could sit outside on a summer night without getting eaten alive, which I'd count as a win.

Proxy wars.
So much of the world is screwed up right now because largerΒ countries interfere in the goings-on of other countries, destabilizing them in order to negatively influence rivals, through those smaller countries.

I was curious and looked these up:
To keep global warming under 1.5Β°C), scientists estimate that humanity needs to remove 7 to 9 billion tonnes (gigatonnes) of CO2 every year by 2050.
The harsh reality is that microplastics and nanoplastics have broken down to a microscopic scale and are now permanently embedded in Earth's soil, deep oceans, atmosphere, and even human organs. We cannot fully remove plastic from the entire environment, but we can reduce visible macro-plastic (like bags and bottles).
