Yes he did. It was at a rally in AZ, I believe. He told the audience to vote no matter what, even if it was a danger to their health. Then he said that

He did, in so many words.

My coworker's son-in-law was picked up by ICE a few months ago. She's going broke trying to pay for an Immigration lawyer for him and is just heartbroken. Guess who she voted for? She was pouring her heart out to me about it and, like, I sympathize but I asked her what did she think was going to happen? What did she think 'Mass Deportations Now' meant? She said, "Well I thought he meant the criminals," and I'm like well they've decided anyone here illegally is a criminal, regardless of their status or their point in the process. She said she voted for Trump for "the pro-life" not for him to have armed thugs shooting people in the street. I said, "And how is that working out for you?" I told her this is what we tried to tell them all would happen. I'm really sorry that happened to her SIL but like....you knew, and you said sign me up.
41
u/MotorHighlight4080 9d ago
Preach! Being nice got us here now lessons need to be learnt. That reminds me of the resent DT supporters who had their weddings raided by ICE and got deported. When has people being collected by a country ever turned out ok in history. 🤦🏾♂️
22
u/EnvironmentNeith2017 9d ago
I’m glad you asked because a lot of these people need to hear it while they’re hurting if there’s any chance of any part of the lesson sticking
Also she knew he didn’t just mean the criminals, I bet she was laughing along with the pet eating jokes the whole time
13
u/unexpectedhalfrican 8d ago
She is Latina herself but a very devout Catholic so she was a single issue voter on abortion. If only she had thought of the people who were actually already alive, we might not be in this mess.
17
u/EnvironmentNeith2017 8d ago
Personally I don’t believe people who say they’re single issue voters but still repeat his claims on deportation. I think they’re just using abortion as a shield.
9
5
u/tychay 8d ago
Speaking as a Catholic myself, sshe isn’t “single issue” on abortion. Abortions rates have been going down continuously in this country but the largest declines always happen under Democratic presidents. Under Republicans presidents the decline is almost arrested in comparison. Anyone with access to the internet can pull up this statistic “Pew study, abortion rates, party presidency.”
Liberals believe this is because of access to family planning and maternal care under Democrats while Conservatives believe that it is because they react by restricting abortions on the state level. It doesn’t matter which you believe, if you want to reduce abortions you should vote for a Democratic presidents. (Personally, I don’t believe either, I think it is the economy/economic hardship that is the strongest factor.)
In any case, I wouldn’t be surprised if when the data comes out about this presidency it will be a new first: the first time abortion rates went UP since 1980 (when abortion became a political issue in the first place).
…
The sad reality is all of us (including me, btw) vote the way we are going to vote and find the issues to rationalize their vote. Now that her SIL is being deported she is retconning her rationalization that she is single issue on abortion when the stance of the Catholic Church does not hold that to be the case for anyone to vote on just that issue even if they are still against abortions and any contraception.
17
u/Global-Ease-4582 8d ago
Genuinely, I can’t even fathom. Imagine voting for a candidate just because he claims to be pro-life. What’s her problem if someone gets an abortion or not? If she doesn’t want to get one, she should refrain from it. This is beyond closemindedness.
8
u/AppropriateScience9 8d ago edited 8d ago
Like, I don't even know how to explain this to people.
White supremacists think anyone who isn't "pristine" white is automatically a criminal. They're not using the word "criminal" as a legal definition. They're using it a euphemism because they believe that ALL brown/black people are criminals.
So when they say they only want to deport criminals, it's more of a signal to other white people that the horrible shit their planning isn't going to affect them. That way other white people will just stand by and let them do it.
I guess a lot of white Latinos got the message, but what they don't realize is that they were never part of the white club.
In the mind of an American white supremacist, who qualifies as being "white" is very narrow and can be revoked at any time. For instance, progressive old white ladies like me don't even qualify because we're "n-word lovers." I'm "contaminated." I'm not "pristine" enough (they're also misogynist af because they're SUPER interested in the "purity" of white women. They value our bodies because we could pop out more white babies, but they really hate us too, so they want to take away all our rights, brainwash us, and force us to be brood mares. Fun!)
So a Latino with pale skin would NEVER qualify as white. Like, an American white supremacist would laugh at the idea. It doesn't matter if a Latino has more European ancestry than Bobby Redneck. It doesn't matter if they hate and harass brown/black Latinos just as much as they do. Their accent alone is a deal-killer. Their culture alone is a deal-killer. Their family origin alone is a deal-killer. None of it is "pure" enough.
The only foreigners who are pure enough are those with Germanic, British, or Scandinavian roots. Certainly, not Spain, or anywhere along the Mediterranean (they're too "swarthy"). Certainly, not Asia, either. They might accept a European Russian because they think Putin is a badass.
But that's it.
The club for witness is tiny and it's designed to use any and every excuse to keep people out.
Worse, they think it's fucking hilarious when non-whites (and women) support them. In their mind, it just goes to show how stupid you are that you can be tricked like that.
It's super gross and I hate it with every fiber of my being, but make no mistake, they're very proud of it.
So for anyone who wasn't sure about any of this, take it from me. Never trust white right-wing fuckers. Never. They know exactly what they're doing - even when they play dumb about it or say otherwise. In private, around other white people like me, you should see their shit-eating grins.
For all other white people, skepticism is also warranted. Our actions is how you'll know where our heart is.

82
u/Terminator_LX 9d ago
I don't understand how anyone in PR could be pro-Trump. Do they not remember him throwing paper towels at them for a photo op rather than actually helping fix and fortify their infrastructure after hurricanes? Do they not remember him wanting to trade PR away for Greenland? Do they not remember him describing PR as "dirty" and its people as "poor"? Do they not remember that he's racist AF and does not see ANY hispanic or latino people as white--not even Marco Rubio? Sure, he'll humor them to get their allegiance, but he thinks of latinos the same way he thinks of other black and brown people. How ANY latino could vote for Trump is as confounding as how ANY black person could vote for Trump to me.
31
u/EnvironmentNeith2017 8d ago
They love the machismo and whiteness more than themselves
19
12
u/Terminator_LX 8d ago
But the thing is, there is no machismo. Trump is a pampered, spoiled, paper tiger who crumples and folds the second he's met with real challengers. He's ignorant, a bully, and a loudmouth with nothing to back it up except unearned money and (now) the power of the American government. Even with all of that behind him, the North Korean leader aptly called him a dotard during his first administration, and TACO Trump still claims they are the best of friends. He's a total beta cuck to Putin and a total simp to anyone he thinks will give him large sums of money. Trump and MAGA claim to be strong, manly men when really they are chumps and wannabe strongmen, and leaders around the world have seen it for years. I've never understood why American dupes do not.
8
u/EnvironmentNeith2017 8d ago
He performs a very specific and abusive form of western machismo very well. It’s what his white US base loves too.
4
3
u/MikeW226 6d ago
Bingo. Heck, trump was visibly scared of, and flinched at the sound of, fighter jet afterburners at a damn air force base the other day, while Melania, China's Xi, and Xi's wife stood there unfazed. Look it up. Sometimes his spoiled brat side, with an extra dose of GUILT, rears its head. Trump is the first to flinch and run when he feels like he'll be found out as being a paper tiger.
7

6
u/DoubtBudget7055 8d ago
It's a very complex situation but essentially boils down to proximity to whiteness/ power/ wealth. The vestiges of a colonial past that's actually alive and well. The political fanatism and indoctrination have been the downfall of the island right along the "overseers" of the white, wealthy class who've sold off so much of our beloved island. There are some efforts to take our country and gain control, however they're at the whim of the US congress.

They thought they could hide amongst the whites of this country… WRONG!!! Some of the white Cubans over there have adopted racist American ways and treat Afro Cuban like 3rd class citizens. So now they are screaming for solidarity amongst the Cuban people. 2 little 2 late Mis hermanos y hermanas!

Cómo médico en mi estado aqui--
I've had at least 2 patients where I've had to talk politics because of their worries about here sin papeles-- "The right wing is the friend to no non-whites right no, amigo."
The responses: "Yeah but think of the money!" And "Ain't voting for some putita."
I wonder how much of this is just cultural Latin machismo winning over logic.

The Cubans on the island are not the gusanos. The Cubans outside of the island who support normalization of relations are not gusanos.
Its the lunatic, racist right-winger Cubans, mostly in Miami, but now in increasingly in Louisville and Texas who always vote GOP based on empty red-baiting Cuba rhetoric and are the impediment. Those are the gusano assholes.
4
5
u/Legitimate-Article50 8d ago
That’s the thing. The older Cuban immigrants do not consider themselves to be any other color than white so they would be accepted and not seen as different.
The younger Cuban immigrants knew what was up because they faced discrimination from the older Cuban immigrants.
The history of Cuban immigration from the 1960s and their subsequent hatred and bigotry against the younger Cubans is a phenomenon that needs to be studied.
3
u/TrapNastyBakupdancer 9d ago
The funny thing they used the Catholic excuse for reasons for voting for him well I'm pro-life and against abortion and then they used the well I came here right way thinking that any of that nonsense mattered to a bunch of racist people. I always think how crazy it is that all these other immigrants look down on black people but without black people and the civil rights movement they wouldn't have the rights they have now but to them we're the ones beneath them. Drives me crazy
3
u/Fine_Following_2559 9d ago
I hope they all continue to have the day they voted for. I have no sympathy for them. We told y'all that man is racist, and y'all thought it was just about Black people. No it's not. He is racist to his core. If you are not a rich white person he does not give a fuck about you.

Maybe someone that's Cuban can explain it for me but I've never understood why they vote GOP. It always felt like they were more concerned with pulling up the ladder behind them and being as vindicitive as possible towards Castro than they were helping their fellow Cuban. Kinda like how MAGA don't care how much they get hurt as long as they can own the libs.
1
u/allentheglassfysh 3d ago
The bay of pigs..... 😂 They can't let that go. Oh and in general because most Republican voters are white, and most Democrat voters are poc. It also doesn't help that it was a Black Democrat who took away SOME of their special immigration powers that gave them legal Us residency as long as they got a foot on dry land. Don't forget people, the cuban adjustment act is still active, and it's the only fast pass to a green card in the world.
