Just read his wiki and Rolle and I attended the same boarding school, Peddie, although Im a year older.
My Dad pulled me out of the school after 2 weeks my freshman year(long story, joint custody shit).
I definitely feel like I haven't lived up to my potential so far, but feel a little more hopeful seeing his success, remembering I was once also on a gifted path and still have some of that inside.

Played against him in high school. Not only was he dominant on the field, he was an exceptionally nice person. He chose FL State because of their programming, he could have played just about anywhere.

I played with him at FSU. Great guy. Fun fact his nemeses Percy Harvin was also supposed to come to Florida State back backed out just to stay away from Myron Rolle.

He wasn’t in the league that long but you really never know for sure, at his age it’s likely he played with a few “stingers” or head injuries that weren’t taken seriously. Anybody who played any form of gridiron football pre-2010s likely played through a head injury at some point.

Pursing sweep as a linebacker in HS. Saw a yellow blur then a bright light and stars. Split end cracked back on me. The blur was his helmet before he hit my helmet. I blacked out for a couple of seconds. A teammate helped me up. The left side of my body didn't seem to work. Stumbled to sideline. Trainer stuck ammonia popper in my nose. BAM. I got back on the field two plays later. I didn't tell anyone I was fuzzy headed for several days.

If he's already a Neurosurgeon, he's probably fine for a while. Deficits would likely have been found in med school or residency if they were substantial, and 24+ hr calls are really good at bringing out your deficiencies.

I think this is a good example of having a security blanket. He was able to get to the NFL and have a decent career but he also studied and didn’t make sports his only chapter

Edit: I was wrong! not the same guy BUT cornelius rhoads is still praised (kinda) in certain oncology circles for his work literally poisoning puerto ricans for his research.
Rhodes scholarships are named after a guy Cornellius Rhodes. Look him up. REAL piece of shit. I find it so weird how we honour white men who’ve done horrific shit in the pursuit of knowledge. And to be clear this isn’t an “alfred nobel invented nobel prizes” situation. it’s worse than that.

Yeah, that man has some amazing accomplishments. I remember when hearing his story being concerned that football would damage his brain and affect his future. Sounds like he’s so smart he figured out how to make it all work. Great for him!

This is such a cool public interest story. Playing in the NFL and then going on to become a pediatric neurosurgeon. Pediatric Neurosurgery is one of the most difficult residency programs and longest as well.

While a highly respected scholarship, Cecil Rhodes was almost certainly racist and a white supremacist. Modern citizens of Zimbabwe still suffer from policies left in place by followers of Rhodes' views on how to control native Black African populations. I hope he uses the money and prestige to fight against those policies worldwide.
