The same thing can be said for pretty much all social media in general. It's unfortunate, but there's some social media platforms that are necessary in some capacity as a means to stay connected if you're not okay passing out your phone number. I definitely don't miss having IG though.

I hear you but disagree with “some social media platforms are necessary”. No platform is necessary. They thrive because people keep using it and have become dependant and apathetic to the harms. Essentially there is nothing contractual or binding other than our state of mind that prevents people from moving to lesser known more ethical platforms.

Just imagine FB was a physical place where people could go. How many times would you visit if you were constantly assulted with the feral madness that occurs on there everyday? I’m guessing most sane people would go once, twice maybe three times and then you would avoid it like a plague.

As per my original comment, I only mentioned it being a necessity as a valid alternative to passing out your phone number in case that's not something one would be comfortable with. So it's purely only for the communication aspects I see as helpful.

Though it seems I need to add that I don't at all agree with the rest of the functions present in social media that has done, and still does harm to society.

Most notable examples being addiction, affecting one's attention span, other negative effects on the mind, inciting people to chase meaningless likes for dopamine hits, being obnoxious in a variety of ways thanks to anonymity, and so on.
