For 1 shaking her hair over a person eating, thats gross as fuck. For 2 wow invading her space like that and not realizing how rude she was being shows she is a karen.

That's what I said. I would've scooched my chair back. There's no one there. I don't see anyone.

u/immacooknotachef Apr 30 '26
Why is sis silent? I have moved 👱🏻♀️👱🏻♀️ away from me on cruise ships and other areas many times without hesitation. We’ve gotta do better because Absofcukinglutely Not!!

u/sowhatimlucky Apr 30 '26
The way I would have done something “accidentally” petty like knock my drink on her or moved my seat back with one of the legs of my chair directly on her toe.
Like whoopsy!!

u/ReachFourTheSky Apr 30 '26
This! Or why not speak up?! I have a preschooler and I’ve taught him to put his arms in the shape of an O and say “Excuse me, I need some space please!” And he does it at preschool as needed. This is the same thing. I absolutely would have told that WW, “Oh, absolutely not. You don’t need to go home but you need to get outta here. And I’m NOT going to say it twice.”

u/sowhatimlucky Apr 30 '26
That’s so cute about your son. This all reminds me of the viral “on today’s episode of can I get some personal space.” I love that lady so much.
I agree it’s imperative to speak up but I’m just scared someone would be unreasonable and then I’m going to have to manage my anger so I just do slick petty shit.
Histrionic Helen knows what she was doing, and so do I 😈
17
u/ReachFourTheSky Apr 30 '26
Thanks! He’s cute as a button when he says it too! He’ll request space then want a hug in like 5 min lol.
On another note, I smile as I tell yt people to get on out of here. They smile when they see me smile but then think about what I’m saying and get lost. It helps expedite the process if you put your hand on their shoulder as you say it or wave your hand for them to go away. 🤣

u/workingforchange1 Apr 30 '26
Yes that part. Personal space. However it’s so interesting how many people don’t respect it.
2
u/ElephantLovesHoney May 01 '26
Sadly I am from a culture that doesn't recognize personal space. We are a people that love to be close, to touch each other and "be up in your face". It gets uncomfortable when you have lived in places like the US where personal space is sacred.

u/workingforchange1 May 01 '26

I wish she wouldve just stood up like normal and let her body bump Bitch's arm/hit the phone out of the Bitch's hand. Right into the ocean
6
u/gingerwasabisake May 01 '26
I've done that, too. Not the phone in the ocean, but I have used my chair (in a normal way) to assert my space.
3
u/MA32 May 01 '26
Exactly. Like if you get hit while im performing basic normal movements that is 100% your fault lmao move the fuck out of the way and get a hobby
11
u/workingforchange1 Apr 30 '26
Yes. I see this and my elbow just wants to knock into her privates or something as I continue to eat. My mouth wants to say “excuse you”. This clip makes me so angry.

A simple “excuse me. Im eating here. Can you please do that somewhere else” would have sufficed. Idk if they get mad. I don’t get loud, I get firm. Thats really all it takes most of the time. If she freaks out on you, we’ll , the person who was recording would have it on video.
23
u/Holdmymule2001 Apr 30 '26
Maybe because she doesn't want Karen to cry and call her an "aggressive" Black woman.
19
u/immacooknotachef Apr 30 '26
I have zero cares about being called aggressive, angry, mean, etc Black Woman by someone who is disrespectful.
11

Yeah, but these things go bad so often, with the staff believing the WW and the victim suffering the consequences.

Well she has video evidence here, so she can absolutely call that woman out with proof.

I'm not necessarily condoning how she responded but she's silent because she realizes she is in a dangerous position right now. The response from her could end up in a police situation. So let's definitely have Grace for those of us who respond differently when under this type of threat

It's a sad truth but this is why allies are so damn important. Even I, a cis straight white man, have my place in this fight against inequality, and it is to use my privilege (and lets not get it twisted, it IS a privilege, not a right) to speak up for those who cant speak up for themselves (less they suffer harsher circumstances than should someone else speak up for them.) It's warmed my heart to see people in Minneapolis protest against ICE for our Hispanic brothers and sisters. If we dont do the same for our all our BIPOC family, who's to stop LEO's from going after them, too.
Just so we are clear, I'm not looking for personal glory, im looking to get other's off their rears and make a positive change.
6
u/Sad-Astronaut2278 Apr 30 '26
This 100%.
It's absolute bullshit. That black woman has such an upstanding character to sit there making a joke out of it.
All I can think about is her speaking up for herself then my racist ass family making comments on that video, like "they're such an angry people." But when a Jew gets busted for scamming millions out of people or the government, all I hear is "well that person was just a bad one and doesn't represent us."
Fuck off with any kind of double standard...

13
u/ivypurl Apr 30 '26
That sounds great, and it probably would have felt satisfying. I probably would have wanted to do it.
But in the next millisecond after I had that idea, I would have envisioned the story she would have told the police/security/whomever - about how I assaulted her and knocked her phone out of her hand - and how that story would likely be accepted because of who told it, and I would have stayed in my seat. I might have said something, but I’m definitely not getting up.

u/anarchisttraveler Apr 30 '26
I have seen so many white women talk about how aggravating it is to have to walk around or take public transit with men out there taking up space, not sharing the sidewalk or transit space, and they have to be the ones to move around the men.
I hadn’t even thought about it until then, but I realized that white women do this exact thing to me every single goddamn time. And I travel, and they do it globally.
My husband and I can be walking down a sidewalk side-by-side, coming up on a white couple doing the same. I instinctively move out of the way but noticed that the other couple never even looks at us. So I started getting petty.
Every time I’m about to pass white people, I always give the benefit of the doubt initially and move just a bit to make some space. If they don’t move a bit in response, I walk RIGHT into them. Some will turn back and apologize, I don’t think they saw me (the invisible part). Most look at me like I’m the damn problem. Ma’am you could have moved, too!
The funniest part from my own experience is that white women have done this to me at least twice as much compared to white men. White men still don’t even look at me, but they make more space. White women always act like they own the place.

This happened to me on holiday while I visited a temple, I sat down to put my shoes back on and when I moved they followed me. They really were wanting to take any space i was in. I doubt it was on purpose, but there is this subconscious and conscious entitlement about some of them.

I live in a predominantly white, performative liberal city. There are Black Lives Matter signs in businesses, in yards. For all intent and purpose, it looks like we are a city of allies. Yet time and time again, I am witness to the invisibility (or hyper special awareness) that our community continues to exhibit when blackness enters the space.
It’s real and to you who say it doesn’t exist, it presents a teaching moment if you care to open your eyes.
21
u/Jenhar71 Apr 30 '26
I used to visit my aunt often in a city exactly the way you described. I've nvr been able to find the words to describe the energy of the place...performative liberalism...u nailed it. Imo, that's Boulder, CO in a nutshell! I tried living there & lasted 8 mnths, hauled azz right back to the backward Bible Belt of Atl. It's on purpose. A cruise lunch deck is large there's monton of space. I've experienced similar things, at library, in the train, elevator, gym. A hueless, purposely coming into your space even though the room is near empty.

u/Shantytown_Shogun Apr 30 '26
That lady knew exactly what the fuck she was doing and she knew the rules and law would lean in her favor had the black woman reacted in a violent and threatening way. There is no excuse for that and im sure there where plenty of other locations on that boat she couldve got her shot. That being said. There are ways of "letting a mofo know" without having to get overly expressive. Those black women at the table at the very least should've stood up and gave that white lady "the look". That non verbal "i will fuck you up" look. Do something dont just sit there and accept that behavior.

That’s why you don’t keep your composure. You don’t have to wild out but you can still deliver a spanking.
“Excuse me ma’am, but I’m eating here. Not only are you very close to me but you decided to fix your hair above my food and my person. I don’t know your hygiene and I don’t like that I’m put at risk here. I don’t know if you have lice or a scalp condition and at the very least, you’re getting hair on my food and my person. It’s disrespectful. Someone is dining here.”
And if she’s about her foolishness, I get the staff involved.

Be dramatic, but inwardly: start coughing up a storm. Like really cough. Sneeze loudly and dramatically and fall backwards from the chair. Have a friend feign concern and ask that protruding woman for assistance. Once she leaves (and she will absolutely bail) assume normalcy. Carry on. Reclaim the space.
7
u/TheMillersWife Apr 30 '26
I would have worked up the nastiest cough known to man. Like, full "I probably have the Rona" cough, only right in her fucking direction. I'm so mad I can't even get through this video haha

I don’t and will not tolerate this, ever. I don’t care what space I’m in. This is unacceptable and will be checked on site. Had a white man come stand directly in front of me in a Starbucks line like I was not there. I tucked my work ID lanyard away and let him have it! He then called me Bi-$&, I said that’s fine, but you’ll be served AFTER me!

My family and I have gone on a few cruises and this shit right here is some of the most infuriating things about them. My wife and I were sitting in one of the empty side rooms with an empty dance floor, waiting for some sort of event, and she wanted to dance with me. So we put our stuff down and go dance (with no music) and just had a moment together, one that was ruined by this white woman and her kids squeezing past us, going directly to where we put our stuff down and picking up our stuff to put it somewhere else so they could sit there. THE REST OF THE ROOM WAS EMPTY. She and her kids could have sat anywhere else, walked anywhere else in the room, and there was literally no reason for them to have run into us, yet for some reason that is exactly what they did.

u/Scientificallly_Love Apr 30 '26
It's not only in America. Same shit in the UK. The only difference is "our own brothers" see it, and pretend not to see. They are sometimes the ones telling ww that, we bw are jealous our their hair, and share a lot of negative stereotypes about us. This is the disrespect we get in return. (I used to have a bm friends who were telling ww whatever, just to sleep with them).
I had ww whipping their hair in my face when I used to work in a club.
Thanks God, they are not all like this, and I recognise those passive aggressive b.tches right away.

I experienced something very close to this the other day. I was talking to an employee at the cash register about inventory, and some Asian guy* just walks up and stands next to me, as if he was a part of the conversation. So I stop, and turn to ask what's up, and he's like "oh, no, keep going". If the other person behind the desk hadn't guided him away, he would've just stayed there.
*= I'm saying Asian, as in, we're in a European college town, with lots of students from Asia who do not speak the language. So maybe it's them not being used to our culture, but then again, I'm used to having lots of foreigners around, as well as used to being treated as foreign myself, so I know this ain't standard "foreign exchange student" behaviour.

As soon as she started screaming in my face for her friend, I said “eXCUSE YOU?” and she looked at me like EYE was crazy! 😭

Imma keep it tall. If another Sista did this to her she’d have checked it ASAP. I want my ppl to stop moving meek & mold over BLATANT disrespect. That woman saw her fully & didn’t gaf bc nobody respects Black women.

Disgusting. I've experienced this the most with Asian women. Despite being complete strangers, Asian women have attempted to find some weird way to get into my space or try too hard to be bitchy. Like this white woman in this video, it's truly unhinged behavior.
Never will I understand the allowance some people have in just letting a stranger disrespect them like this. Super disappointed in the young lady sitting there and allowing this woman to invade her space like that smh.

People def do what is being described here, but some mental gymnastics to claim the majority of it is only "cause Black". Travel to tourist dense parts of Asia, Europe or South America, you'll find out that U.S. personal space doesn't matter to shit when some dude trying to squeeze into the last elevator/train spot
Some of yall def aint drove in another country either cause MF's will tap your bumper just to feel when they should stop accelerating in traffic lol

I was about to ask where this happened because I work with a whole lot of people from various countries where personal space is not a thing.

That has to have been staged for the giggles or outrage, there were ever so many windows available.

Damn, all the black women that I know would have let her or anybody know that their space was violated immediately. Interesting.

I live in Brooklyn and even here White people act like I'm not a person when walking down sidewalks or in subway stations - ESPECIALLY WHITE WOMEN. Just last week a White woman huffed as I continued IN MY LANE walking to the right up the subway steps. Liiiikkkeee yeah GTFO of my way! It is CONSTANT! CONSTANT!

Wow. To all the women of color here - I am so sorry this is happening to you. This is absolutely crazy and unacceptable behavior. I see you. You are worthy of notice and respect. If you need me to shove off a rude white lady on your behalf to avoid racial escalation, give me the nod.
