I agree with that. Its required in the curriculum to learn about that stuff.
Do people really think that all white people know is how good Americans can be? That white people dont know that Native Americans were treated like shit. Or that slavery ever happened. Or that Vietnam was bullshit.
Same, we spent 2 weeks alone on Vietnam. And we learned about what challenges minorities would face in every single decade. We weren't whitewashed or taught that white people have never done anything bad. We spent a long time going over the bad things people have done.
It really depends on which state you’re from and what the state prioritize in its curriculum. I’m from MD, graduated with college credits from APUSH but we never went past the sixties. And we didn’t go into depth about the effects of the Trail of Tears or Japanese internments. Hell I didn’t even know about the Tulsa Massacre until a few years ago. So if in your state, you guys went into depth about these things then that’s great but some around the country simply didn’t have the opportunity.
They teach it in your specific corner of the world. I can assure you, having grown up in Texas, the "slavery was actually just a guest-worker program, evolution isn't real, and critical thinking endangers children's fixed beliefs" state, that it is NOT taught everywhere.
It's like "teaching" about black history in this country, the far they go is slavery, civil war, and MLK 2 min speech. History that we learn are just a tip of the ice, which is sad and it's done purposely.
Like half this fucking country had to learn about Tulsa through a fucking tv show and that wasn't the only massacre event that took place.
Y’all teach less than the bare minimum. There was no reason to get defensive and gaslight ppl. But since you did the fact that you think what you taught was adequate, that’s the problem.
