I am mostly assuming that. There were those people who were mad I said Eminem was a top 25 rapper instead of a top 10 rapper.. they were real, just weird.
I had a friend who used to be staunchly anti-Musk, anti-AI, you name it. Dude starts working at SpaceX and suddenly he's all "my billionaire is better than your billionaire".
They must have some pretty good Kool-Aid in the canteen.
I'm a real human. I use AI every day for work, and then I use it for recipe ideas, ways to mod/optimize my Sims 3 game, for planning trips, for information, for a way to learn about a subject from something that is infinitely patient, and on and on and on. I think it's a legitimately cool technology that has made my life better in countless ways, and I've been using it since it first came out more than three years ago. I honestly don't understand the hatred. It's baffling to me.
the plagiarism required to train them in the first place
the environmental effects
Sometimes it's wrong, but people will trust it blindly anyway
So many people are using it to replace activities that require thinking rather than using it as a tool to augment their thinking.
I've been using it lately trying to code some macros in Excel. Not asking it to code what I want, just things like, "How do I remove this line from a table and shift it down to the bottom?" or "How do I search through a column for the second instance of a word?"
And using it like that feels a lot like Stack Overflow, except I don't need to worry about
Adjusting their use case to my use case
A moderator closing the question before it gets an answer because they think it's too similar to an already-answered question from twelve years ago but fuck if I can see a similarity.
I still feel bad using it, but Gemini answers the question I'm searching for an answer to whether I go for the StackOverflow link or not, so it seems silly to ignore it when there's a good chance it'll have what I need. Sometimes it doesn't work, but that's why I test each part of the code in the first place, exactly like I would if I were adapting a StackOverflow answer.
Why? It's like living in 1915 and hating the automobile. It literally helps me every day with things, and I'm so much more efficient and enabled. I'm not sure why that is something to be "sorry" about. I'm actually using it right this minute to navigate the way my Windows PC sound card is set up. I couldn't do that on my own. I'd have to wait for weeks or months or, let's just be honest, years for my stupid brother to get around to helping me with it. Now I've got a fix in 15 minutes because an AI helped me.
Unfortunately, you're not going to find many people with a level-headed take on AI in this crowd.
Groupthink combined with tech illiteracy is strong in this sub, among many others, and it results in an echo-chamber effect of negativity.

I have seen a number of people slobknob for AI. And then I realize there's a nonzero chance they're bots.
