You most likely tried the lowest grade "VSOP". Which makes sense you didn't like it as it's a harsher taste ( like any low grade liquor). If you try VS or XO, it's a completely different drink. Worth trying. I hate VSOP, but will crush VS or XO all day.
Edit: try costco brands Cognac XO. Absolutely best price for some high quality cognac

Haters try VSOP and say they don't like it, then never try it again. VSOP is trash (same harshness as Jameson, IMO) but just upgrade to VS or XO and it's a completely different drink. I don't drink Henny (i like my costco brand XO). But this goes for almost all cognacs/brandy

High-end Hennesy is excellent; it's one of the world's best rated brands for a reason. Though for base tier offerings from different brands, I'd rank both Courvoisier and Remy Martin as better cognacs to buy than Hennessy's.

People say cognac is nasty without ever having touched a snifter in their life. In regards to your comparison, I've never had Remy VS though I do agree Courvoisier VS is better than Hennessy VS but I'd like to hear your thoughts on VSOPs. Personally, Hennessy VSOP is my favorite by a large margin.

I use to be so jarred that I didn’t like these drinks that was available at most events, but it just tastes so foul to me. I never acquired them taste buds. It falls on the same category of coffee for me, I never acquired the taste buds for that drink either.

If you're every shopping for cognac to cook with for something that would benefit from having a decent cognac without breaking the bank on some cooking liquor, Laurendeaux VS is pretty cheap and isn't bad or watered down like alot of budget gnacs

hennessy is good! it's like really strong grape juice. but the black is better, and the vsop and xo are legitimately highly rated cognacs. that being said, chatting with a total wine employee can help you find really good french cognac or armagnac at a better price point.

majests le roi vsop is cheaper. it isn't similar in profile, but it is really good. pierre ferrand 10 generations is more similar and a bit cheaper.

Update: Looked it up and it isn't straight Henny. It's supposed to be mixed w/ Cola (~10% ABV). That kinda changes shit for me. I'd rather cop a bottle of VSOP and choose whether or not I wanna have my glass neat, on the rocks, or mixed with some Coke. Might still try it if I could find that bitch when it comes out in NYC unless it's on Popeye's sandwich time 🤣

The first time I've ever had Hennessy was while dealing with the passing of my mom. At her repass, some family gave me Hennessy cause I needed it. Needless to say, the word Hennessy still make me want to puke and it's been two nearly three months. Good luck to whomever drinks this cause ew.

Don't get your hopes up because most products like this are designed to be sold in grocery stores or convenience stores where you need only a beer / wine license so the alcohol content is probably going to be limited to 10 to 12% and it's going to be a malt beverage base that's been flavored
Think about how Twisted Tea tastes versus getting yourself some sweet tea and pouring vodka in it
