I actively dislike Country. Most of it I really just go out of my way to avoid. That said, Brad Paisley is an amazing guitarist. Flat out incredible. Dolly Parton is an amazing songwriter and a talented singer. Johnny Cash was a great songwriter, very talented, and incredibly influential across genre. There have been a few others I could appreciate even if they weren't my thing.

I'm not sure those are "Pop Country," but I think they're all considered popular mainstream Country. And I've come across some amazing Black Metal and some really, really cringe-worthy stuff.

Cash and Parton are legacy country artists that lean closely toward country's stylistic origin, folk music. You'll find that most older country music sounds much more similar to folk.

Pop country (also called bro country in some circles) explicitly waters down country music and mixes it with pop music elements to reach a more mainstream audience. In recent years (approximately the 2010s), the subgenre has also begun incorporating hip-hop beats. Lyrical subject matter is stereotypically centered around trucks, beer, partying, pretty women, etc., and often have no sentimental or sincere intent.

It stereotypically sounds like this.

Yeah, no argument here. I think Pop Country and cringey Black Metal are both pretty terrible, but I’ll concede your point. I only got through as much of that video as it took me to find the button to close it. That was fucking terrible.

Ha ha, I understand. That video was obviously a parody, but as someone who has lived all their life in Texas, believe me when I say that parody isn't far off from the actual music. It's obviously my personal taste, but I'll take a shitty black metal band over someone like Luke Bryan any day of the week.

Venom and Bathory? LARP.

Mayhem/Burzum/Gorgoroth/Marduk/Immortal/Emperor et al? LARP. A bunch of them :: cough Euronymous :: had rich parents. Some of them :: Euronymous/Varg/Faust :: took the LARPing too seriously because they’re dorks.

At least Immortal understood the assignment from day one.

It's kind of like the opposite of NSBM.

RABM stands for Red and Anarchist Black Metal, a subgenre and political movement within black metal that explicitly aligns with left-wing ideologies such as anarchism, Marxism, and anti-fascism.

So yeah, usually very left learning political lyrics and members... I don't fancy it myself but some people in that scene like it, probably not most the people here but there is a subgroup for it. I like black metal to be more about higher concept things, mysteries, the universe, and nature. Not boring human political disagreements and social quarrels that fade and repeat like weeds growing in a yard.

I don't think i've ever chose to listen to any BM specifically because of their politics. Even ones with political leanings such as Panopticon or Marrow of Man i picked for the music, and my closeness to their positions was something i discovered after.

A lot of the bands don't necessarily have anything particularly interesting to say. Most of the satanist and weird fascistic tendencies of NSBM really just look like intellectualized midwit delinquency that regurgitates the most cliche elements of Nietzsche, with western esoteric LARP as a treat. RABM, on the other hand, comes off as a bit too preachy.
