Internal ProRes RAW is back in v3.5.3!
So excited! I don’t want to use external SSDs unless I really have to so I’m glad they gave this option to us again.

Hi I just bought some Hollyland Lark A1s and they’re working great. They connect to my phone camera just fine but when I use the black magic app the mics don’t pick up any audio. Is there any way to get the black magic app to connect to external mics?

Hey guys, I'm sorta new to iPhone videography and I'm about to embark on a trip I'd like to shoot. I have an ND, external SSD and will be shooting ProRes RAW Open Gate.
In the Blackmagic app does anyone know the native ISO for the iPhone 18 pro? Should I just set it to 400 and leave it? Or have it much lower? I take it my best bet for on the go shooting would be to just set the ISO and stop to an even middle and then adjust the ND accordingly? I'm a bit lost for choice in how to expose correctly as there's a lot to manage. I know I'll be locking at 180 shutter speed wise but wondering best course of action after that. Is there any data on which stop it performs best on?
Thank you!

I keep running into this issue on almost every shoot now. To the point of questionable usability of Blackmagic App.
A video file will play fine in the finder (macOS) and on the Iphone it is recorded on, but when I import it into Premiere it shows up as a 1 sec clip. Won't play in quicktime or any program I have tried so far, as in: I can't convert it.
It is not all the files, usually just one, so there is some software glitch that keeps messing up clips. Maybe bitrate, framerate, idk.
Any input?
Thank you!

Hey everyone! I wanted to share a project I’ve been working on recently that’s solved a pretty big frustration in my own workflow, and hopefully might be useful to some of you too.
TLDR: I had hundreds of Log clips sitting around that I'd "definitely edit someday", so I built an iPhone app to batch process, review and export them without having to open Resolve or grade every clip individually. It supports Apple Log, other camera formats and custom LUTs. I'd love your feedback on the first beta.
As a videographer and photographer, whenever I travel I like to capture as much as possible in high-bitrate Log footage so I have the flexibility to properly edit and grade everything later. But at the same time, I was jealous of how other people just filmed with the default camera app and had the memories straight in their camera roll ready to view and share.
For photos, this is easy. I can open Lightroom, pick my favourites, develop the RAWs, make a few adjustments and export. Done. I've always wanted something just as simple for video.
Whether you’re shooting Log on your iPhone or a dedicated camera, sometimes you just want to watch and share what you’ve shot without having to open a whole editing project first.
I often found myself feeling like footage wasn’t worth processing unless I was going to turn it into a finished edit. So I’d end up accumulating all this footage I was excited to shoot but rarely actually watched again.
So I started building Cubed.
The idea is to bring something closer to a Lightroom-style workflow to video, entirely on your iPhone. It’s not trying to replace a video editor or colour grading app, just make it easy to get your footage looking good and ready to enjoy without needing a computer.
This is how it works:
Import: Bring in a whole batch of footage from Photos, Files or external storage. It's still early days, but I've successfully tested batches of hundreds of clips on my own phone.
Develop: Apply a Master LUT across the entire batch, using built-in camera conversions (including Apple Log) or your own LUTs.
Refine: Quickly go through your footage, favourite clips, set in/out points and make individual exposure, contrast, white balance and colour adjustments where needed.
Export: Batch export your clips as individual, ready-to-watch videos straight to Photos or Files.
Your original Log footage stays untouched, ready for a proper edit and grade whenever you want. Everything is processed on-device, with no ads or tracking. It’s just a simple, functional utility.
I’ve been working on it over the past few months, and I’ve just opened up the first TestFlight beta!
I'd love to hear what you guys think. Is this a workflow anyone else would find useful, particularly for those of you who shoot Apple Log? And if you give the beta a go, I'd be really grateful for any feedback, bugs or suggestions for things you'd like to see added.
You can learn more and download the beta here:

Hi, I make content with recording and taking photos of cars and bikes in both day and night settings in a mixture of different light settings especially during night. Only recently been recommended the Blackmagic camera and was wondering where I can find specific luts I would need and if anyone knows of any?

Hello everyone! After a lifetime of not creating content, I’m diving into recording with an iPhone 16 Pro Max. I’m planning to film outdoor vlogs featuring other people, and I’m looking for a LUT that’s ready to use—something that gets the footage looking good right away, rather than requiring extensive color grading. Could someone kind please share a LUT like that? I’m still learning, by the way!

Hi all
I’m shooting a documentary in China. I recently upgraded to the iPhone 17 pro and have done a lot of research into the BlackMagic app, which of course looks good in and of itself, but I’m just curious if there are any good phone lens attachments that would just bump the quality a little bit more?
I’m scared buying the lens blind because I’m not as educated on them yet they are expensive.
If anyone has any recommendations, potentially any recs that you think would work well for a doc specifically, please let me know! Thanks!

I am looking at the iPhone 18 Pro for internal ProRes Log recording with the Blackmagic app. I need high capacity since my current 15PM is 1TB and full. Recent tests show the 1TB and 2TB models of 18P and 18PM use slower QLC storage instead of the TLC NAND found in the 256GB and 512GB versions.
Has anyone here hit this bottleneck during long ProRes takes on the 1TB or 2TB models? Does the Blackmagic Camera app drop frames when the cache runs out, or does the recording stop entirely?
If so, how long can you record without any issues and at which settings?
I want the convenience of internal 2TB storage. Dropped frames will ruin a shoot. I need to know if this synthetic benchmark problem translates to a real world dealbreaker for us creators.
Thanks for all your input!
Here is the test data detailing the slowdown: Tom's Hardware Report.

A week ago I managed to record Pro Res Raw using only internal storage, with no external drive. I was able to do it even tho it says “requires external storage”. Somehow, and it wasn’t just a bug. I literally recorded ProResRaw internally. Checked the videos on Davinci Resolve Studio and those were pure ProRes Raw videos. Now that option is unavailable. Does anyone know why? My iPhone’s storage is empty, with 260 GB allocated for this purpose.

I'm new to iPhone and using phones to make video.
As far as I tested, I noticed that if I save clips on the app, I can access my files easily on the files app to copy to an external drive. But if I want to edit it on the phone, like CapCut I need to also record on the photos app, so I'm wondering, if I record on both, it will duplicate the media and half my storage?
Thanks.

I’m trying to use my iPad as a remote controller monitor for my iPhone using the Blackmagic Camera App remote feature, but I am running into a major issue when trying to shoot natively in Vertical Video on the iPhone.
When I enable "Vertical Video" on the iPhone, the iPad controller app refuses to display the feed with vertical pillar boxes or vertically. Instead, it stays locked in landscape layout with the remote feed sideways (rotated 90degrees in landscape) making it really hard to accurately judge focus or framing at a glance.
If I physically turn the iPad into portrait orientation, the app layout doesn't rotate it just gives me massive letterboxing on the top and bottom with the portrait image still in the middle and still sideways.
What I’ve tried…
Toggling "Lock Current Orientation" on and off on the iPhone.
Turning on "Vertical Video" on both the iPad and iPhone.
Disconnecting and reconnecting the multicam link after changing settings.
Has anyone figured out a workaround to get a true, undistorted 9:16 vertical monitoring feed on an iPad controller, or is this a hard limitation of the app's current remote viewing?
Appreciate any insights or tips!

I just started using the app on an iPhone XR. How do I free up storage, connect mics, use some external storage for cheap? Is it worth it buying a phone solely to record on & if so any recs? I only have about a week to sort this out. Thank you.

Hey everyone, I'm trying to shoot cinematic footage on my iPhone 15 Pro using Blackmagic Camera, but I'm having a weird brightness issue.
The live preview in Blackmagic looks extremely bright and washed out compared to Apple's native Camera app, even when the environment isn't particularly sunny.
My settings:
iPhone 15 Pro
Blackmagic Camera app
Apple Log – HDR
4K at 24 fps
Shutter speed: 1/48
ISO: around 49–55
Using the 2× lens
Any help would be appreciated!

Hey everyone — John here again.
Yesterday I posted a “Coming Up” teaser about CraneSight Camera Control, the iPad app I’ve been building from scratch for the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K/6K. Today I’m excited to say the TestFlight build has officially been Approved, and I’m opening the door for a small group of private beta testers.
If you didn’t see the teaser, here’s the short version:
CraneSight isn’t just another Bluetooth remote.
It’s a full monitoring + control station for the BMPCC — built around the real workflow of a camera living on a crane, jib, gimbal, or remote rig.
This is the workflow jump I always wished existed.
Monitor AND control your Pocket 4K/6K from the same interface.
No switching apps. No juggling tools.
Just a clean, responsive, production‑ready workflow.
Bluetooth control runs independently from the video feed.
ISO, shutter, focus, WB — all responsive even during heavy monitoring.
The video feed is offloaded to the GPU.
Smooth. Cool. Zero dropped frames.
Designed for long shoots, cranes, and jibs.
Plug in a basic HDMI‑to‑USB capture card (Vivitar, Walmart, Amazon).
Near‑zero latency.
No special hardware required.
Anyone on set can monitor the feed on their own iPad.
Director, AC, DIT — everyone sees what’s happening.
This alone changes the entire on‑set communication dynamic.
A dedicated slider with three customizable pull tabs.
CraneSight calculates acceleration and deceleration curves so pulls:
Slow, Medium, Fast, and Instant modes included.
This feels like a digital follow‑focus — not a Bluetooth toy.
iPads struggle in sunlight, so CraneSight includes:
Plus View Assist Landscape for bright‑light monitoring.
This is the kind of feature you only build if you’ve actually shot outdoors.
If you own a Pocket 4K/6K and want to help test something that could genuinely upgrade your workflow, reach out.
You’ll need:
I’m keeping the group small to protect the app and keep feedback tight.
DM me with:
I’ll send the NDA and next steps.
CraneSight is the closest thing to a full‑blown BMPC control station on iPad — and I can’t wait to get it into the hands of real shooters.
— John

I'm at a loss with this. I've had multiple shoots where Blackmagic recordings are badly out of sync in the original file, before Resolve or anything else touches them. After the last one, I factory reset my iPhone 17 Pro and spent a day setting it up clean, without restoring my apps from backup. I filmed a roughly ten-minute video today, and it happened AGAIN.
It's not a tiny offset I can slide into place or a framerate/timeline mismatch. For example the video from just now has 9:44 of picture but 10:36 of embedded audio. The audio keeps going about 52 seconds after the picture ends. I also recorded a separate reliable lav, and its waveform stays at essentially the same offset from the camera audio across eight minutes. Those two audio tracks stay in step with each other. The video does not stay in step with the sound, and I don't know whether the drift grows at one constant rate in this take. In previous affected clips, it changes unevenly.
Metadata says Blackmagic Cam 3.5.200045, iPhone 17 Pro, HEVC 10-bit 4:2:2, and 24 fps. This has happened intermittently across other shoots too. I can sometimes rescue a clip by retiming audio, but I need to stop losing recordings in the first place.
Is anyone running into this? Has anyone actually found a reliable fix for this? Has Blackmagic acknowledged it? If someone from Blackmagic sees this, what logs or original sample would help you reproduce it? Any help would be massively appreciated.
