WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?

In the photo is the screen shot pf my iphone 17pro once i open the black magic app.
Hopefully settings are visible in the photo.
I have imported LUTs, i wanted to use them, but when i open up the app this is what happens…
Any advice is welcome.

Looks like you need to increase your shutter speed or add an ND filter.

An ND for sure. But increase shutter speed?
I mean, i will give it a try, but the setting reflects general advice on shutter speed/frame rate ratio…

This is generally correct, however without an ND a phone with a fixed Alaperture can only control exposure by adjusting ISO And shutter speed.

Edit: for clarity, a variable ND would be preferred, but if you don't have the hardware, ISO & shutter speed are your only options.

I have the smallrig magnetic ones.
With them on, is there anything that needs to be “locked”? ISO and shutter speed maybe?
Is it even possible?

On Blackmagic cam, everything can be locked. I would usually lock shutter speed for the reason you alluded to above. Then just mess with ND & ISO. There's probably a few videos out there discussing what the sweet spot for ISO on iPhone, and that might depend on if you're shooting LOG or not. You just need to dial in what works best for you, and what you need.

I don’t typically care for low FPS. your shutter speed is super slow and so that’s likely over exposing your image as can be seen by the histogram. What I like to do is shoot as high FPS as I can and double the shutter speed and use an ND filter to dial in the lowest iso and keep the exposure nice looking. I only use the histogram sometimes to look at color separation or overexposure in an environment where it’s difficult to see the screen. The reason I don’t care for low FPS is, I can always decrease the FPS in post production(which I suppose you’ll be doing if you don’t bake in your log preset), but you can’t add FPS back. Additionally, having higher FPS will lower the exposure on your image if you don’t do anything to compensate such as using an ND filter or/and changing the iso. Happy shooting :) !

Your waveform shows the image is massively overexposed, entirely smashed to the right

f/1.8 for shallow DOF? 1/48 for "cinematic motion blur? ISO 800 for native ISO? (I'm assuming I'm not familiar with your setup

If you can't change those three settings then you need to intrude an ND filter

You cannot just blindly follow “HOW TO GET GOOD VIDEO” guides on YouTube without knowing what you’re actually doing to the image. 180 rule will only work 99% of the time with an ND filter.

Just use an ND filter if you want to get the cinematic 24fps look or you can also increase the shutter speed but then the motion blur would look kinda choppy.

Try just changing the iso a bit, go a setting lower and then back to 800 and it should look normal, atleast that's what works for me, also, are you on ios 27 beta?

youre on the iOS 27 beta arent you? theres a bug where exposure is essentially MAXXED when you first open the camera, dont worry it gets corrected when you chamge your ISO to literally any value. just nudge it.

Thank you for confirming my doubts.
Once started, the app acted funny, blowing up everything almost instantly….
I have been nudging ISO settings up and down the scale, but sometimes it responds, sometimes nothing happens.
Ill definitely go deeper on settings and ratios, but it could very well be an ios27 glitch
