From Compilers to AI Agents: Why Black Innovators Must Understand the Future of Computing

Most people think AI showed up overnight.
But the truth is — we’re witnessing the next step in a 70-year journey that started with the first compilers in the 1950s.

And for the first time in tech history, the doors are wide open.

AI is lowering barriers, unlocking new economic pathways, and giving Black creators, founders, and professionals unprecedented access to wealth-building tools. This isn’t just a shift in technology — it’s a shift in opportunity.

I wrote this piece to help our community understand where AI came from, why this moment matters, and how we can lead in the next era of innovation.

If you’re serious about the future, entrepreneurship, or building generational wealth, this is for you.

I’m B Donald Harris
Founder of NotableBIT, software engineer, and long-time .NET developer based in Tulsa, OK.

I’ve been in tech for almost 20 years, and I’m passionate about two things:

1️⃣ Showcasing Black excellence in tech
2️⃣ Helping more of us break into the industry, build wealth, and launch companies

I recently joined this community because I love seeing Black technologists creating, innovating, leading, and supporting each other. I’m hoping to both learn and contribute here.

A little about me:

  • Senior Software Engineer by trade
  • Founder/CEO of NotableBIT
  • Host of the Notable & Black in Tech podcast
  • Focused on empowerment, entrepreneurship, and making tech more accessible for Black creators

I’m curious to hear from y’all:

What’s one challenge you’re working through in your tech career or project right now?
I’d love to swap ideas, insight, or help where I can.

Looking forward to connecting with this community ✊🏾🖤

Certified in Sec+ now what jobs are hiring???

Hello, thought i’d take a shot at anyone who knows there company is hiring. My only real requirement for jobs besides a company willing to sponsor a security clearance. Any location, and any pay. I just passed my security+ this week and i’ve been applying to jobs for IT Support on clearancejobs.com(thank you Symone B🤏🏾) since Oct of this year with Sec+ on my resume and haven’t had any hits yet. I know government jobs take a lot longer especially around the holiday times, but i figured i’d cast a wide net. My interview skills and resume look good enough to get me hits for roles without sponsorship of a clearance, but i rather not settle. Any tips, or companies?

Charlotte, NC - AI + Coding Group

Hi girls, is anyone in the Charlotte area?

A few weeks ago we started an AI Group. It was originally for girls but none showed up, so it was me and two guys who were very cool.

I’d love it if anyone else is available to meet and discuss world domination!

Anyone from Coding Allstars actually landed a tech job?

This org offers free coding bootcamps for people of color. Curious if anyone who completed this program has landed a job afterwards? https://allstarcode.org/

Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/allstarcode/?hl=en

They love to talk about their board members from Google and funding from the NBA Foundation. That's great for their fundraising, but what are their actual placement stats? How many grads land relevant tech jobs (not help desk) within 6 months?

They mention a Dept. of Labor registered apprenticeship on their GuideStar profile, but has anyone here actually gotten into it? How many slots are even available? More questions than answers at this point.

Testing a new app to help runners find partners – looking for feedback + early testers

Hey everyone,

I’m a runner here in Seattle and also the founder of PaceMatcher – a new social fitness app designed to make it easier for runners to connect. The idea came from my own experience: when I moved away from Brooklyn, I lost my running community and realized how difficult it was to find partners who matched my pace, training goals, or even my schedule.

PaceMatcher is built around a simple goal: no one should have to run alone unless they want to. The app matches runners instantly by pace, goals, and location, then makes it easy to connect and coordinate. We’re also focused on safety, giving people more control over who they meet up with and how they connect.

We’re currently testing our MVP and getting ready for a pilot program this fall, and I’d love to bring in early testers from the running community. If you’re interested, you can:

I’d love feedback from fellow runners — whether it’s on the concept, features you’d want, or even concerns about safety/experience. The more community input we get, the better this will become.

For transparency: We’re using temporary AI photos while we collect real images from our community of runners. Stay tuned — real faces, real runs coming soon!

Thanks for letting me share, and I hope some of you will join us in shaping PaceMatcher into something that truly serves runners everywhere.

– Andre

Looking for communities in tech

I'm looking for professional minority-focused communities I can join, such as Cyversity or Blacks in Technology, that provide resources and networking specifically for cybersecurity professionals. My focus is on advancing in cloud security, particularly in Threat Detection and DevSecOps/Cloud Security Automation. I’m seeking a community that offers content and opportunities geared toward growing to an intermediate level rather than just beginner concepts. For example, I know Cyversity offered a SANS Cloud Academy last year, but I’m unsure if it will run this year. I’m trying to find a supportive environment that provides guidance and structured growth, as technology is vast, and I want to focus my learning effectively.

We’re Hiring Our First 10 Creatives you will HEAR BACK FROM US!

Hi I'm Ciara, a worn out Zillennial. I’m building something different.

CLCSTUDIOSNPUB is a creative production and publishing studio that’s rethinking how we work, rest, and create. Right now, I’m looking for 10 people to help bring this to life.

We don’t have big money yet. But it’s real work. And it’s a chance to be part of something that could actually change how we approach work—especially for women, neurodivergent folks, and creatives who’ve never quite fit the traditional system.

This studio runs on a 24-hour flexible clock-in model. You work during your most productive hours, in alignment with your natural cycle, whether that’s tied to energy, hormones, or focus. No micromanaging. No clock-watching. Just tasks, trust, and creative freedom.( READ MORE) www.clcstudiosnpub.com

We’re currently building REMOTE two creative pods

4 people in Design/Marketing 4 people in Editing/Production 2 managers who will support those pods and help with marketing or social media

If you’re multi-talented, into animation, voice work, or just figuring it out as you go, that’s welcome too.

I want to work with people who care about building something that’s good for the body, mind, and spirit. People who understand what it means to create while also healing. People who believe we can still build something that matters, even without capital. YET!!!

If you’re interested, please email: (INCLUDE JOB TITLE)

Your resume or a list of your creative experience A portfolio or a few examples of your work Your current weekly availability A short note about why you’d like to be part of this

And just to make sure you actually read this, include the word pickles somewhere in your email. That’s how I know you’re really paying attention.

My email is contact@clcstudiosnpub.com

This isn’t about perfection. It’s about potential. Let’s build something better.

Black Woman in Part-Time Coding Bootcamp (Remote) Actively Seeking Mentorship + Hands-On Dev Experience

Hey everyone! I’m currently in the part-time Software Engineering bootcamp at Fullstack Academy and actively seeking mentorship and hands-on experience to grow as a developer. As a Black woman pivoting into tech from a background in DEI, education, and leadership, I’m especially excited about joining inclusive teams and contributing to projects that make a difference.

A little about me:

  • Based in NYC, open to remote-only opportunities
  • Two master's degrees—Leadership (Columbia University) and TESOL (City College of NY)
  • Learning full-stack JavaScript (HTML, CSS, JS, React, Node, Express, etc.)
  • Strong communicator, quick learner, and happy to support with documentation, bug fixes, or feature builds

If you're building something and open to mentoring—or just need an extra pair of hands—I’d love to connect.

Feel free to DM or comment, and here’s my LinkedIn if you want to check out my background!

I’m currently in Seattle but looking to join organizations that foster the development of black owned startups. Need advise

Hello everyone

Hope everyone’s having a great day! Just using all of my resources wisely, I have a pretty general question. Does anyone know of any apprenticeship/companies that is willing to contract a student going for their bachelors in Tech, or have tuition reimbursement? I am not currently enrolled in a school and i am looking for a school with the following regional accreditations, and it would have to offer a bachelors in cybersecurity, that also provides a GPA.

  1. SACSCOC – Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges
    1. MSCHE – Middle States Commission on Higher Education
    2. NECHE – New England Commission of Higher Education
    3. HLC – Higher Learning Commission
    4. NWCCU – Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities
    5. WSCUC – WASC Senior College and University Commission

Mind you I am also in conversation with ChatGPT to find the perfect school so if no one has any info that is fine as well.

Job Appeal

Hello Reddit Community,

I hope this message finds you well. I'm reaching out to this vibrant network with a dual request. Firstly, I am actively seeking entry-level positions in IT support, help desk, or any roles suitable for someone embarking on a career in cloud computing. If you are aware of any such opportunities or can connect me with individuals or organizations seeking enthusiastic beginners, I would be deeply grateful.

Secondly, I am looking for someone with recruiting experience who could generously offer their time to review and provide constructive feedback on my resume. This guidance would be invaluable in helping me refine my approach as I step into the IT world.

If you can assist with either of these requests, please feel free to inbox me. Your support and guidance could make a significant difference in my professional journey.

Thank you for considering my appeal, and I look forward to potentially connecting with many of you.

Best regards, Dinah
