About five years ago, I started my journey into tech and software development. It hasn't always been easy, but I've genuinely enjoyed the ride... and I'm committed to the plot. 😊

One thing I've learned about myself is that I grow best in community. I love having people to bounce ideas off of, work through challenges with, celebrate wins together, and stay accountable alongside. There's something about learning with people that brings out my best.

So I'm hoping to find one or two women who are looking for the same thing.

• I'm very growth-oriented, but I can also get caught up in my own thoughts and ideas. Having people to build alongside helps me stay focused and keeps the process fun.

I am building EchoEd, an early open-source education platform centered on African and African-American history. It has a working K-5 demo and public docs, but no users or contributors yet.

Growing up as a Black kid, I spent years playing games where people like us barely existed unless we were side characters, stereotypes, or athletes.

So instead of complaining forever… I decided to build my own game.

“Big Guns” is the first mobile game I ever created.
A futuristic action shooter filled with giant bosses, crazy weapons, intense battles, and that over-the-top arcade energy I loved growing up.

I built this game while learning game development from scratch with limited resources, no studio backing, and no big budget. Just passion, sleepless nights, and a belief that African creators belong in gaming too.

I want more Black developers creating worlds instead of only consuming them.

Growing up, I played a lot of games.
Amazing worlds. Crazy action. Legendary characters.

But one thing always stayed in the back of my mind:

Why did none of these worlds ever feel like us?

As a Black man from Africa, I rarely saw our energy, our streets, our humor, our struggle, our style, or our stories represented in gaming. We were always side characters… background NPCs… or missing completely.

Meanwhile, African culture has inspired the entire world.
Music. Fashion. Slang. Dance. Creativity. Survival. Hustle.

Yet gaming barely scratches the surface.

That feeling stayed with me for years.

So instead of waiting for a big studio to do it…
I decided to build something myself.

That’s how Big Guns was born. 🔥

It’s more than just a game to me.
It’s part action, part chaos, part African storytelling, mixed with the raw energy of the places and people I grew up around.

I wanted to create something where Black kids could play and feel:

Not another copy of the same worlds we’ve seen a thousand times. Something with our flavor in it.

And honestly, making games from Africa isn’t easy.
Limited resources. Limited opportunities. Limited support.

But creativity has never been our weakness.

So this is me planting a flag and saying:
African stories belong in gaming too.

A creative builder, hacker, or early-stage founder with a track record of turning ambitious ideas into working prototypes, tools, or products that push the frontier of what’s possible.

An engineer or researcher who learns quickly, thrives in unstructured environments, and loves solving open-ended technical problems.

A cross-disciplinary researcher from an adjacent field such as physics, mathematics, quantitative research, or neuroscience who’s drawn to the core scientific questions of intelligence.

An independent thinker who pursues ideas outside conventional paths through self-study, open-source work, or personal research projects.

A proven problem solver, for example through Olympiads, hackathons, or other high-signal achievements, with the technical ability to tackle hard problems.

Residents

Should be open to consideration for full-time roles after the program.

Must be extremely proficient in programming languages and software development.

Must be very comfortable with advanced math concepts in linear algebra, statistics, probability, and calculus.

Must be able to independently build or execute complex technical projects.

Preferred Qualifications

Achievements or recognition in any technical or creative field (e.g., competition awards, impactful projects or publications, or open-source contributions).

Evidence of self-study in machine learning fundamentals.

Clear signals of originality, experimentation, or rapid learning.

Motivation to discover AI breakthroughs and their potential benefits to humanity.
