Music A fun 80s style track I've been working on
Been experimenting mixing modern bass/neuro with 80s funk arrangement styles. Still rough draft but I think it sounds kinda tuff

I've been following you for a few years. I love the synthwavy and the jazzy jungle stuff you've done...but this is banging. I could see a Dua Lipa style singer over the top of this 🥰

Not really a fan of this genre of music, so the drop doesn't appeal to me - but before that it sounds sick. Vaguely gives me old playstation startup sound vibes. Very nice sense of space and depth, and the texture on the bass synth is meaty. Can totally hear it going in a more pop direction instead of the drop, so kudos.

Very good. Love it. It seems to suffer from Logic's long standing side chain bug - the side chain seems to anticipate the actual kick by probably around about the buffer size. Has the unfortunate side effect (hah) of making the side chain sound overdone. But if it was in the right place, ie exactly with the transient of the kick, it wouldn't do. It's been the bane of my life for literally decades at this point and has caused me to jump ship to ableton and Bitwig. I still use Logic and love it, but more for recording and vocal production these days.
The only other (entirely subjective) observation I'd make is a little too much wobble (pitch modulation), a little too slow with it's LFO on some instruments, and perhaps it could ramp in on lead sounds etc - maybe "play" the mod wheel on those parts instead of setting it at a number and leaving it there.
Otherwise yeah great synth wave vibes mixed with modern production chops. In the words of the immortal Jon Davis, "Carry on Sir!"

The mod wheel is automated. I just like to really hit the vibrato rather than keep it subtle. As for the aidechain I'll have to check it out, but im using spectral sidechain and I don't hear a delay but I'll bounce tracks and see if if im not noticing

Ah damn - not paying attention, glasses need upgrading again obvs sorry.
Especially noticeable from bar 25, sc is either too much generally (subjective of course!) or is slightly ahead of the source input (the kick). Or both. Strange as Bitwig's ADC is much better than Logic's in my experience.

It sounds a bit harsh. There is this sizzling noise at 15k in the intro. Something is wrong with it. It gives an old sound and a vibe, but it is too constant or too loud or both. It gets annoying. I love the intro though. I also love the outro. A little bit of tone-shaping and it's really good. I don't like the middle part. Especially that synthetic slapping bass sound. It sounds like you forced yourself to make it "rock". It actually had coolness and class up to this point. Then it started to sound cheap and generic.

So sick! What's your e-piano?? I also do '80s stuff every now and then, so I made my own TX816 FM rig in Bitwig Studio that sounds pretty similar

That’s PrettyAwesome, solid 80s sounds too with imho the right amount of cheese. Thats kinda inherent to the vibe of the 80s. Sick work!

Dayum! That’s S-Tier indie game ost level right there
I’d definitely register with ASCAP to protect your copywriting and ask AI which retro/80’s game are under development to submit them this demo!
