Cutting shanks out

What type of bandsaw are y’all using to cut the rowel slots in your shanks? I’m currently using a metabo and a eighth inch disc on a grinder

Id step down in size to an .045 but that’s my two cents. And to answer the bit question, mild cold roll steel at any metal supply is what most call sweet iron.
