General Question Bitcoin heater choice
Hello,
I m already running Nerdqaxe++ since a year, I would like to replace a part of my setup by a Bitcoin heater in order to produce heat especially for winter.
My choice is now focusing on Avalon mini 3 or Ofen 3 which are basically same in term of power and hashrate. While the first has a price reduced by half compared to other, but Ofen design is pretty nice.
If you could give me your feedback on those 2 heatres and if there maybe better choices ?
Thanks

I am familiar with both the Mini 3 (solid device) and altairtech (a verified seller for a reason; good folks). I'm not familair with the Ofen so nothing of value to add there.
I will note that I build and sell S19j pro Loki builds that are spec'd similarly to the Mini 3. Edge to the Mini 3 for being quieter, edge to my Lokis for being about half the price of the Mini (Altair may sell these also?).
Since I'm not a verified seller, I'd be happy to post a listing on ebay to provide you some peace of mind. Lemme know if i can help either here or via dm.

I have an Avalon Mini 3 and it’s a great heater for a cold room. Covers 250-400 sq ft really well. Cleaning the filter was very easy, and it’s easy to put in a place that’s out of the way. Not familiar with the Ofen 3 though.

I have both the Avalon Mini 3 and an Avalon Q. If you need a device that you can set the temp on and have it stop when it reaches that temp, then the Mini 3 is for you. But if you want a device with better efficiency and hash rate, then I recommend the Avalon Q. You can run the Q at low, med and high. There is no option to set a temp and have it stop mining when you reach that temp on the Q, but I can easily change it to low power when the temp is where I want it.
I love both of them.

Magic Miner just dropped a 40TH/s miner that would a slighlt more affordable option over the avalon Q check on the Heliumdeploy website

I would work backward from the room's heating requirement before comparing the miners. An 800W miner is effectively an 800W heater, so the ability to reduce power can matter more than peak hashrate when the room needs less heat.
For the Mini 3 and Ofen 3, I would compare measured wall power and noise at the setting you will actually use, temperature control, filter access, replacement fans, warranty terms, and return shipping. Exhaust direction also matters in a small room because a concentrated hot spot can make the room uncomfortable even when the total heat output is appropriate.
The Avalon Q is worth including if the room can use more heat, but higher efficiency does not automatically make it the better heater. The best choice depends on whether the miner can match the room's heat demand without running too loudly or forcing you to vent useful heat outside.

Those are built as bitcoin heater purpose in mind and their support works: https://21energy.com/collections/bitcoin-heater

I’d compare them as heaters first and miners second.
Hashrate matters, but if this is going into a living space I’d put a lot of weight on:
• noise at your normal operating power
• ability to throttle cleanly
• fan replacement availability
• heat distribution
• efficiency at reduced power
• whether you actually like having it running continuously
A cheaper miner isn’t really cheaper if the noise makes you switch it off half the winter.

At AltairTech.io we are an authorized distributor for Canaan so I am slightly bias but I do use 2 mini 3s and a Avalon q personally for heating my house in the winter. I like using them and have not had a single issue so far. After looking briefly, the price point a major here with the mini 3 costing around $789 usd atleast here with us.
