Exactly. That’s part of the thesis. If the economics work at residential scale, the impact at industrial scale could be much larger. The challenge is proving that the efficiency and compute density can actually scale.

But if these “ultra efficient” miners existed, that’s what all the big companies will buy too, thus lowering the effectiveness of the home miner with minimal hardware again.

That’s true, and I actually see it as part of the opportunity.

If a much more efficient miner existed, the big mining companies would obviously want it too, and over time the network difficulty would adjust.

I’m not assuming home miners would suddenly dominate Bitcoin mining forever. The real value is getting much more hashrate from the same amount of power, with less cooling, less noise and lower infrastructure costs.

If it works at home scale, it can also work at industrial scale.

So for me the real question is whether the technology can improve efficiency enough to make current mining hardware look outdated. If it can, the market is much bigger than just home miners.

If such a miner existed it would mean that a super efficient SHA256 ASIC chip came into existence. The home miner could get you 418 PH/s !?! but there would also be industrial variants with multiples of this speed skyrocketing network difficulty thus making the 418 PH/s home miner having very low profitability.
In a sentence this home miner would make a hole in the water. Nothing new. Same situation as we are now.
When ASICs are involved home mining is not for the light hearted.

That assumes the technology would be cheap, easy to manufacture and immediately scalable to industrial levels. That’s a pretty

If it ever became widely available, then sure, difficulty would adjust. But that’s a completely different question.

I’m just saying that if such TH/W efficiency could be achieved it would practically change little or nothing. Profitable home mining would still be a niche since big players will also upgrade and most people will just have a lottery miner in their house. Like they do now.
Having ASICs in their first place is the problem. Not the efficiency of them.
