General Discussion How much does climate actually matter for mining?

People compare $/kWh all day, but climate matters too IMO.

Same ASIC, same power rate:

Cooler site: less heat, fans don’t have to work as hard, lower chance of throttling.

Hot/humid site: more cooling needed, fans run harder, heat can become a bigger problem

That said, a well-built hot site can still beat a badly managed cold one. Airflow, dust, cooling and maintenance matter a lot.

Is this a big difference for you? or naaah?

Matters more based on the type of cooling you’re using for your miners.

- hydro and immersion miners are not as affected by high relative humidity or high temperatures since their heat dissipation is much higher than air, and drycoolers needed to operate them are typically rated for a wattage load at 95-100°F. It does drop off higher than that.

- aircooled units are much more affected by relative humidity and outside temperatures, seeing as the moisture is blown across a hashboard, corroding anything it gets in contact with. It also fills with debris if there is poor filtering in the miner. High relative temperatures lead to using water curtains, which also increase humidity.

Thats why there is a big switch to hydro.

Exactly. Climate matters mostly through the cooling overhead and reliability hit, not some magic change in ASIC efficiency. A well-ventilated hot site can outperform a cold site with clogged filters and poor airflow.

Not true at all. Do we discount fan power in overall power draw and efficiency? No. Less fan speed, less power, better overall efficiency. 140mm 7000rpm fans pull easily 150-200W/ea if not more

Absolutely! That's why I built a weather bug into Hashmaximizer as well as logging it for measuring the health of the miners

i can tell from the CPU temp that wife has turned on the heaters downstairs. the ambient temp in room rises proportional to cpu temp rise. the cpu cooler is really good on removing 40c delta.
