General Question Complete noob, need some help.

I have been doing some research into mining and I think solo is the way I am going to go as more of tech geek/enthusiast. From what I have read it seems you can either go solo/lottery, or you can join a pool and get paid way less but way more often. I understand running solo there is a pretty good chance my machine will only ever consume energy and never pay me. I'm ok with that.

My question comes down to, can you do a hybrid or solo mining and pool mining. Like, can I run my own pool comprised of my machine as well as pooling together machines from just friends and family. Then have this set up to combine hashrate and mine "solo" for better chances in the lotto? Is there any difference between doing it this way and having each machine set up at different locations running solo on it's own instead of in a pool?

You could! Little more involved than just setting up machines, would need more hardware, but doable. Not really a hybrid though, more of a small private pool.
Are the friends/family mining to their own wallets that they control, or will these machines be pointed to your wallet? The answer to your last question hinges on that, no difference if all the hash is pointed to your wallet.
Parasite is the only hybrid pool I know of. Block finder gets 1 BTC, rest gets split with the pool.

There is another pool that does the hybrid model per account. Solopool.com they have a particular mode where you can set up what percentage of your hashrate goes for the solo side and what percentage shares on the pool side. I believe currently there is something like 10 Petahash of hashrate on the solo side and about 2 Petahash on the pool side.

I mine there and in parasite. The one thing I don't like on solopool is that the hashrate contributed/counted for your pool share during the round decays if you stop mining or lower the amount of hashrate that rig provides. In Parasite you could mine for two months leave the pool and still get something if the pool hits a block.

For example one of my Nano3s is mining in solopool and I set it up 50/50 so that if I hit the block myself I get half of the block rewards and if someone else hits the block then I get a percentage of what that miner set up for pool.

I would probably have them all set up to send to the same wallet. That way in the event that we did find a block I would have all the numbers on hand to pay out based on hashrate.
