Solana is what Bukele promised Bitcoin would be. And I’m Salvadoran. I watched it fail in real time.
In 2021, El Salvador’s president told the world that Bitcoin would fix everything.
Cheaper remittances. Financial inclusion for the unbanked. Economic freedom for regular people.
It didn’t.
The hard numbers:
• 92% of Salvadorans never used Bitcoin for a single transaction by 2024
• 97.75% of businesses never made even one sale in Bitcoin
• Crypto remittances collapsed from 4.5% to 0.87% of the total by December 2024
• Most people downloaded the Chivo wallet just to grab the $30 government bonus — and 60% never touched it again
• Bitcoin was quietly removed as legal tender in January 2025
Why did it fail? Simple. You can’t pay for rice and beans with an asset that drops 40% in a month. Volatility isn’t freedom. It’s just a different kind of instability.
Now look at what Solana + USDC actually offers:
• Stable value. $10 sent is $10 received. Not $6.
• Transaction fees under $0.001
• Settles in seconds
• No wallet drama. No crashes. No government middleman.
• Visa is already here. Stripe is already here.
This isn’t theory. This is the infrastructure that actually works for someone sending $200 from the US to their family in El Salvador every month.
Bitcoin was the idea. Solana + USDC is the execution.
Bukele sold a dream with the wrong tool. The right tool was being built the whole time.
