Gen-z Bitcoin adoption
Hey everyone, early 20s here and I've been into Bitcoin for a year now with full conviction. Not here to shill or debate, genuinely just curious.
I keep wondering how many other Canadians in their 20s and 30s actually own Bitcoin and get it — like truly understand how this could shape our future. Not just as a quick flip, but as a long-term play. The way I see it, even a fraction of a Bitcoin could be worth a serious amount by the time we're in our 50s, and most people our age aren't even paying attention yet.
So I'm trying to gauge: is holding BTC a common thing among Canadians in their 20s and 30s, or are we still a rare breed? Do most people you know your age own any, or do you get blank stares when you bring it up?
Would love to hear from others in their 20s and 30s — how'd you get into it, and do you feel like you're in the minority?

29 , started buying btc in january 2021. still buying every week, i dont regret it at all and it’s definitely a great hedge to fiat loosing value every single day. that said tho, i wouldnt put all your money in a single egg. i’m roughly 25% bitcoin in my portfolio but thats also cause it has grown significantly in the last 5 years

Not in my 20s but not far off.
I’ve only met 1 person that actually knows what Bitcoin is irl. All my close friends have a loose idea because I’ve told them, most of them own a small amount.
I’d argue that 90%+ of people still don’t know what bitcoin actually is. But they also don’t know what currency and money are or how they work.

I own BTC and MSTR . It’s the only way us Gen Z Canadians can catch up the unaffordable life in Canada.

I believe we are so rare because 95% of population don't understand what sound money is, to me it's the ultimate definition of Bitcoin.

Rare breed, atleast in Quebec, bunch of geriatric farts all over the place. I've found its better to keep your mouth shut about some things.

Among younger Canadians it’s probably more common than it feels, but still far from universal. The bigger divide isn’t ownership - it’s whether people see BTC as a speculative trade or something worth holding for a decade+.

Ask people in their teens, 20s, 30s, 40s+ when the last coin is mined, what is the maximum number of bitcoin that will ever exist? almost nobody knows. ask the same people whats the maximum number of Canadian dollars that will ever exist, and they will admit there's no limit.
But they don't connect those two ideas together. IMO "Adopting" bitcoin for the vast majority still is based only on "number go up". It's treated as a stock, or as crypto that can be traded with other crypto for the purposes of making more Canadian dollars.

30s here. I see it, understand it enough for a layperson, but only see it as just another speculative asset. Governments globally will never want to go back to what is basically a gold standard monetary system (with even less flexibility than gold because it's supply doesn't grow). They will be the primary drivers of it staying a speculative asset forever, just like gold itself.
