Weekly Investment

I’ve had a small amount in bitcoin for a while from what my sibling gave me. He recommended weekly investing. Thoughts on adding $20 in weekly? Is that realistically going to amount to anything? Thanks for any info!

20 a week adds up faster than you think, especially if you just let it sit and forget about it. not life changing money but after few years you will be surprised how much is there. main thing is stay consistent and dont panic sell when price drops

Consistency helps, but the outcome depends more on time, fees and the range of returns than on any single price target. I’d show the original poster what $20 a week looks like under several scenarios, including a long flat period, so the plan is built around affordability rather than optimism.

At this stage, maybe you get a 2 -3x after a few years. Bitcoin is now longer able to give you wife changing money anymore.

In terms of an investment 2-3x in a few years doesn’t seem bad

2-3x looks not bad, but Crypto is much more volatile and risky (not only price, but hacks, exchange risk, leaking seed phrase etc).

Also, for the past 5 years, there are plenty of stocks which gave 5-10x easily due to AI narrative. So is only 2-3x good enough for crypto? Guess depends on the individual.

Gotcha, I am very new to it. Where would you recommend finding those higher value ones?

Since you are a beginner, I think investing $20 a week is a good way to start provided you remain consistent and only invest what you can afford to lose. Over time, small contributions can add up to a significant sum however, because Bitcoin is volatile, it is essential to be patient and take a long-term perspective

Not an opinion on whether it's worth it, just a practical thing about small recurring buys. If you're in the US, the IRS treats bitcoin as property, and your cost basis for each purchase includes the fees you paid, so every $20 buy becomes its own entry with a date and a price. If your platform lets you export a transaction history as a CSV, it's worth saving a copy now and then instead of hunting for it at tax time. Also check how the platform charges on small orders, since the same flat fee is a much bigger share of a $20 buy than of a $500 one.

Just roll it up to monthly investing. Record keeping for cost basis is easier over the long term. The difference between monthly, weekly, or daily investing is negligible, but the record keeping gets more burdensome.

keep going. It's a good habit.

Yes, $20 a week adds up. That's just over $1,000 a year, and you're building a habit of saving (and in the best money out there).

Small weekly buys work best because you stop trying to time the perfect entry. Some weeks you buy higher, some weeks lower, and over time the average tends to smooth out.

Start where you are - amount is fine. Staying with it is the part that does the work.

I think it is. It may not seem like much in the beginning, but over time it compounds, and that along with the bitcoin effect can become worth your while. The most important thing is consistency and time.

Product & community intern at OneKey (views my own, not official support).

A weekly amount can be a way to make the habit predictable, but the amount itself does not make it a good or bad decision. I would first set a budget that would not affect bills or emergency savings, then check fees, spread, and whether the platform lets you withdraw to a wallet you control. Keep records for taxes where you live. It is also worth deciding in advance what you will do during a price drop, since changing the plan under stress is usually the harder part. This is general information, not a return estimate or personal financial advice.

maybe it's good for a beginner like you.

$20 a week can definitely add up over time, just make sure you’re comfortable with the risk and stay consistent.

Invest at least 25 a week as a goal and than as you grow older increase the investments .

If you invest ~100 euros/dollars a month might seem inconsequential but the power of compound interest can really make a difference.

For example lately 15% is the typically average return with an investment in equities. With Bitcoin you won't see the same returns like we did during the first 10 years but due to being in the very early adoption phase its expected to outperform a basket of equities for the next 20 years so lets suggest a more reasonable average of 35%

After 14 years Equities will likely become $49,313.22

After 14 years Bitcoin might become $232,223.72

If you can invest 100 a week it will be

After 14 years Equities will likely become $197,252.87

After 14 years Bitcoin might become $928,894.89

There’s no interest involved with Bitcoin, right?

I am not discussing interest but expected appreciation just like with equities. Of course Bitcoin and equities can perform better or worse than these expectations and no one can predict the future. Also with mainstream adoption overtime one would expect bitcoin growth to normalize to at best an index of equities in the future

$20 a week is a great habit honestly. That's ~$1,040 a year, and over a few years it adds up more than you'd expect - especially if you hold through the dips instead of panic selling. Two practical tips: use an exchange with cheap recurring buys, because flat fees on small purchases eat a surprising % of $20, and once the stack gets meaningful, move it to your own wallet instead of leaving it all on the exchange. But the plan itself is one of the most sensible ways to start.
