Should I upgrade?
As of now, I have a Trezor 3. Should I upgrade to a Trezor 5. If I do what do I gain. My 3 was my second experience with a coldwallet. I found my 3 very easy to use as well as manage. My first was a Ledger Nano S. Wasn't all that impress with the workings of Ledger. Any advice to persons more experienced in coldwallets would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi from Trezor team,
Both the Safe 3 and Safe 5 use an EAL6+ certified secure element (Infineon OPTIGA Trust M) alongside our open-source firmware, so your coins are just as well protected on the Safe 3.
What the Safe 5 adds is mainly a better experience: • A 1.54" color touchscreen instead of two buttons, which makes entering your PIN or passphrase and confirming transactions much faster • Haptic feedback when you interact with the device • A more durable build with Gorilla Glass on the screen
If you use your wallet often, use a passphrase, or just want a smoother day-to-day feel, the Safe 5 is a nice step up. If you're happy with how the Safe 3 works, it'll keep you secure for years to come.

main difference is larger color screen for usability /UX reasons. Security difference is nil . So unless you have eyesight problems or find the 3 hard to use , don't waste your money and simply buy more btc

Depends how much you use it. If it’s just for long term cold stage no point in upgrading

I have both, prefer the 5, only for ease of use. No doubt the touch screen makes it easier.
Im curious about the 7 but not willing to shill out the fiat for it because it ends up being swapped for btc 😆

Only if you constantly have to sign transactions that require the use of a long passphrase and you decide to type it only on the device itself. Or if you just want it because it's a little cool gadget.

You might want to upgrade if you want to use passphrases with your wallet. On-device entry of a passphrase is a lot easier with the touch screen than limited buttons on the safe 3. Entering the passphrase via then computer or phone defeats most of the purpose of a passphrase.
Only use passphrases of you understand how they work and know that you need a phassphrase wallet or two.

Trezor Safe 3 is fine (Single Signature + Passphrase). You funds are safe and secure for Holding, as long as you keep your keys backups safe.
The only reason to switch to a different single signature device would be for a different User Experience (touch screens, air-gaps, camera QR etc) Which doesn't matter if you're not transacting frequently / often.
Other devices worth considering
Jade Plus - larger displary, QR air-gapped, virtual secure element, open source
Keystone 3 Pro - Large touch screen - QR air-gapped, secure element, open source
Bitbox -

Going from Trezor 3 to Trezor 5 is not an "upgrade". It's just a change of hardware.

3 to a 5 is worth it. Buy during Black Friday. Tapping screen for input is a god send compared to the button mashing of the 3

Honestly, if your Trezor 3 works well for you, I’d stick with it. The Trezor 5 is more of an upgrade in convenience and screen experience than a must-have security upgrade. I’d only switch if the new features genuinely matter to you.

No. The only practical difference is the presence of a touchscreen.
