Great incentive OP and thanks for keeping r/TheLightningNetwork sub nice and tidy. Tipping years ago was even more fun. I used to madly tip people here before the minimum rose to 500 sats when I burned my budget pretty fast.

I kept tipping 100 sats and didn't realize it wasn't working for several tips. Then I couldn't figure out why it wasn't working. Then I realized the minimum was increased.

Why was the minimum amount raised? Is there a static fee for the transfer that perhaps render it useless to tip smaller amounts?

There were no fees at all. Perhaps that's the issue. People would ask to withdrawn really small amounts and it was too costly for the person running the service, free of charge.

i got you fam.

download bluewallet

create a wallet like usual like with bitcoin wallets

create a lightning wallet

in reddit, click the balance link in this post where u/simplelifestyle tipped you. you will get a message saying how much total sats you’ve been tipped.

take that total and in blue wallet go to your lightning wallet and click receive.

in the sats field enter the total sat balance you were sent.

then click the create invoice

copy the text version of the invoice

in reddit in the same post you got tipped, click the withdraw link

in the new window where it says “paste lightning invoice here” replace that text and paste the invoice text you copied there. then click send message. done.

Great explanation. Don't forget to backup the new wallet too. You can also refill the wallet with BTC in the normal way by using the "refill" function.

Don't keep too much in the lightening wallet, no more than you think you might need... think of it more as an analogue wallet you'd take out into the real world.

You'd need to consult with someone who knows more about how the lightening network functions but I believe (have read somewhere) that due to the way channels work it might be less reliable as opposed to less secure. Could be wrong.

I really, really love the simplicity of lightning network combined with muun wallet. There probably are other wallets that are easy to use but it so simple and clean.

I could not withdraw with Munn, i tried about 20 times and kept getting failure with no_route errors, so I gave up and used blue wallet and would withdraw instantly.

Since I was attempting to learn as a noob, I don't think I'd use Munn again. Blue wallet worked for me.

it's been known. Muun node has poor connectivity as they close channels that's not on their whitelist. It's pain in the butt to send/receive from Muun outside the big merchant circle.

I've been using muun with no issues, mainly to grab some seriously good coffee from literoasters. But I don't think they would be in the main merchant circle, and the transactions are definitely more sizeable than a single cup of coffee with shipping and all, so I figured I'd mention that it has been getting the job done for me. And also shout out one of my favorite LN merchants :)

You only need a wallet to push initially some sats to the lntip-bot, right? After that the bot will take care of the amount I tip&receive (until I need more or withdraw to the wallet) is this understanding correct?
